There's a Ray Bradbury story called All Summer in a Day that's set on Venus. The sun comes out for an hour every seven years.

It's starting to feel like that here.

Well, I took Lucimay back to Dulles this morning and she called later saying she had got on the 3ish flight out, which is good. Haven't heard from her again so I'm assuming she AT LEAST got out of NOVA.

Glad you made it home, Luci.

I love that Bradbury story. I always feel so angry at the way the main character is treated by her classmates. I never heard of a movie based on it though.

I remember seeing it as a child, in school I believe. Don't know if its available on video/DVD.

dAN: I could always take pictures of myself and email them to you.

Just hanging out with the parents today. Couldn't hook up with Rodney as his road in Washington's Crossing NJ is flooded on either side. Apparently Easton PA was severely hit with rain and the Delaware can rise 6 inches above flood level by 6am tomorrow (they say parts of Trenton are being evacuated)-he's pretty sure his basement will be flooded (lives right next to the canal). I guess my sister is either taking me to my nephew's baseball game or the movie: An Inconvenient Truth, or both tonight. Then I (hopefully) fly home tomorrow. It's very clear here above the Geo. Washington bridge and I can see NYC quite vividly. I would have had to drive out to the Palisades Mall to meet Fist yesterday, but couldn't arrange it-he is limited by work and having 3 kids in tow, so couldn't make it down here on the train.

I'd really like to thank aliantha (and her daughters and cats) for putting me up for two nights in Arlington-very cute little house. I owe her big time: she will be showered with gifts for years to come (whether she likes it or not! :P ) and to Romeo and his wife to allow us into their beautiful home. To Luci for keeping me crazy and to Creator for helping me out at Spamalot.

Before I left my horoscope said something like great providence awaits you in travel-and it's proved true so far; I was switched from a middle seat to an aisle in Denver, given the "pimp-mobile", instead of a Focus Friday and not charged for Friday because of mistakes Enterprise made, then lucked into a Spamalot seat 4 rows from the orchestra with a major thing happening 3 seats away, the wedding bouquet landing 2 seats away on the other side and a shower of confetti, not to mention hitting NJ on the way out as a mudslide slammed the Washington beltway.

Thanks to all for a fabulous time-the weather sounds good for NYC tomorrow so hopefully I'll be able to escape any final disasters. We all went out to a semi-fancy restaurant last night to celebrate my parent's 58th!!!! Wedding anniversary! Gods that's a long time! Tam! Here I come!!! 8) 8) 8)

Wow...58 years. I doubt I could even live that long, especially considering my ex-wife's cooking.

Sorry it took me so long to post. Several basements in our housing development flooded Sunday night, including ours, and our neighbors' who Younger Daughter is cat-sitting for. So we spent a fair amount of time mopping up that night....

Anyway.... We had *such* a great time all weekend! It was great to meet Don, Danlo, Luci, Cail and Lorelei -- you guys rock! Cail, you were soooo funny Friday night (yeah, the hose!) -- wish you could've joined us for the rest of the weekend! Lorelei, you and your friend were lots of fun! Luci -- lordy, honey, who knew you were as funny in person as on the boards? Danlo, it was great getting to meet you (finally!) and you're welcome back to our house any time! (Plus you know where to send the gifts... ) Don, great to meet you, too -- Tennessee isn't *that* far away from DC and now you know all of us, so feel free to come back anytime for another monument tour when it's not, y'know, monsoon season!

Alynna, thanks for all you did to make the weekend so much fun! Romeo, thanks as always for hosting us, and especially thanks for the *extra-special* surprise. (mwahahahahahaha...) Jay -- great to see you on Friday and Saturday, and you are gonna be soooo sorry you skipped Sunday....

Thanks to everybody in general for putting up with my kids for the weekend. Luci -- that piercing laugh of Bats'? She gets it from her dad....
Batustousai: Sure thing, 'Kaasan. You just keep believing that.

We bailed out of DC around noon on Monday (we drove -- sounds like that was just about *the* only way to get out of town on Monday...) and headed for southern WV, where we've been since then. It finally quit raining here yesterday afternoon. We're not heading home 'til Friday (and hoping to find a mostly dry basement then, but I'm not holding my breath).
