I feel a little nostalgic at the moment. Tiny Dancer is on the radio...

Well I appreciate it, wherever it came from. And it's nice to have another theater vet, who knows what it's like.magickmaker17 wrote:and hey! How am I supposed to rant about my not having a job and offer my sympathies to Balon, if you do it for me! I think that's unfair! And you wonder why I'm looking at airfare to Dallas. Honestly!![]()

Yeah, I remember Pirates 2 weekend. I was supposed to work the morning the day before, and the day it came out. I ended up working a double shift the day before, and they asked me to stay and work the midnight showing, even though I had to open the next day. (I didn't stay.)Balon wrote:Well I appreciate it, wherever it came from. And it's nice to have another theater vet, who knows what it's like.magickmaker17 wrote:and hey! Well, I'm convinced I'll never learn to drive(I just got behind the wheel for the first time today...). I also hurt my knee at some time today, doing goodness knows what, so I can't flex it all the way without it hurting...but the title of my car is now transferred to my name!

What's a lurgy? The flu? Poor Tam's out cold with the flu on her departed Dad's birthday, my baby's not having a great day. I pulled some ligaments in my foot so am hobbling around-I've been doing a very good job of quitin' my bitchin' but have been a little bitchy today. The child is doing awsome and loves ancient Superman cartoons-go figure...

Well the "dreaded lurgy" can be anything that makes you crook, but I've got gastro and have had so since Friday. I had a piece of toast yesterday (wacko) but apart from that I've been on Hydrolite (rehydration stuff) for days.
Hope your day gets better Danlo.

The Dreaded Lurgy (from wikipedia):
The lurgy (also spelled lurgi) is British English slang for an unspecified or mythical contagious disease, generally one considered inconvenient and non-fatal with obvious symptoms, such as influenza or the common cold. Phrases like "I've got the lurgy" are commonly heard when somebody is explaining why they cannot attend a social occasion, come to work, etc. It is also often referred to as "The Dreaded Lurgy", based on a Goon Show episode from 1954.
The term is also used in the context of playground games, where lurgy is often used as a phantom contagion or unclean quality, in a manner similar to the North American concept of cooties. For example, "You can't play with us, you've got the lurgy!" could be used when excluding another child from a group.

Danlo -- feel better, dammit! And tell Tam I'm giving her the same order!

Pretty good day today. I didn't put my foot through the floor of the car while giving Magickmaker her first driving lesson (and given the vintage of her car, that's not outside the realm of possibility...). To be fair to the poor kid, her car has a manual transmission and that's not the easiest thing to learn. But she kind of has no choice, as my car is a manual too....

Ali, that's kinda scary. Sea and Tam and Danlo and everyone please feel better soon. Magickmaker, just remember it's much easier if you don't tense up. Relax and get a feel for it and if you stall it a few times so what. It isn't gonna kill the car.

It's better on the vehicle to stall alot and get the feel for it that way then to burn the clutch. Err on the side of caution and just keep trying because once you get it you GOT it. Plus, remember when you do get it to keep your foot all the way off the clutch unless engaging it because even a soft foot resting can cause premature clutch wear. Nag nag nag from the auto shop manager.
By the way, what is the year make and model of this vintage jalopy?
Enquiring minds want to know.
