Hallo!

Congratulations to all of you!

I want to loose 6-8 lbs

Since christmas i thnik i have lost about 20 lbs...
no, i am not thinner now because ist always the same..2 lbs down 2 lbs up and so on :?

When i lost weight in the past it was always easier together with other people..in 2004 i lost about 15 lbs with weight watchers and i ws really happy but most of them came back over the years..to much chocolate

ok..i will try not to eat any sweats tomorrow.

Sports was never my problem, i do anything every day. It makes me happy and i know i can be very glad about that.

Sorry for any mistake, I am coming from Germany and i do not write very often something in english.

Yay, welcome Hami, and join our mutual pain!

MsMary, have you tried changing things up? Different exercise, a little less food (ack!)? That's what's supposed to help in plateau situations. (I usually give up when I get stuck on one, so don't go by me. I'm just sayin' what I've heard... ;) )

Welcome Hami! We're all in this together. :D

And I agree with Ali. . . MsMary might need to try eating different foods or different combinations. I think that a plateau is the body's way of adjusting to the loss of mass, so you may be stuck at your plateau for a while. But don't let it get you down. . . you've been successful in your goal, and maintaining your loss is an accomplishment too. :)

Welcome Hami!

Having others to share with does help a lot, it's great to meet someone from Gernany!

I'm still a newbie, so I'm very impressed by how many places in the world are able to connect based on common interests.

Apparently I've lost weight, according to friends at work. :D I don't weigh myself as I'm quite light anyway, but I'm told I look smaller round the waist. Just wish my pants would notice.

Ugh.

Major headwind on the ride back home today. But on the plus side, I can feel the time needed to get my breathe back getting MUCH shorter, which shows good improvement. On top of that, I'm consistently in one higher gear on my route!

Yay for improvement! :D

I am trying modifying my diet a bit and tracking more carefully. The first 5 lbs. I got away with ignoring some of the little things that add up. ;)

I am considering how to increase my exercise, too. Unfortunately, I have this stupid test to study for, so I won't be able to give as much time to exercise as I'd like till after the test.

You are doing much better at writing English than I would do at writing German (especially since I only know isolated words of German!). :)

Day 2 without chocolate!

Sometimes when you eat less and do more exercise you will not loose much weight because you gain muscles ..and they are heavier than fat

And a common interest in SRD at that. And most notably the Chrons, which, I've always said, has tended to serve as a sort of self-selection process here at the Watch, leading to our moderately diverse, but always exceptional, membership. :D

(Sorry to crash the thread, I'm skinny. I'll leave all you folk to your pain. Good luck. ;) )

I am still tracking my calories. I noticed that on some days I am not eating enough fat, according to the diet goals on the tracking site I am using. I wonder if that's a problem. Even when I do eat "enough" fat, it's usually on the low side of the range.

Could be. If you don't consume enough calories, you can actually send your body into starvation mode, and it will conserve your fat instead of shedding it.

But I think the fat is more for the health benefits in olive oil (they're recommending olive oil, right? or canola?). Plus the body needs *some* fat every day to function. WW recommends 2 tsp. of olive oil every day. (Not sure I'm getting that much, actually...)

WW recommends that for the whole day? No other fat source?

What is that, 9 grams of fat? That's a lot less fat than in the breakdown of nutrients suggested at Sparkpeople.

When I plugged in my current and goal weight, they put me on 1200-1550 calories/day and 32-56 grams of fat/day, 163-236 grams of carbohydrates, and 60-127 grams of protein per day. Not that I have to calculate all that - I just plug in what I ate and it shows me the breakdown.

Well, they also assume you're eating meat and probably some lowfat dairy, which would up the fat grams. Plus whole grains have *some* fat. I think the olive oil requirement is mainly for that omega-3 thingum. (Don't worry, I get plenty of fat from the other stuff in my diet...)

I think you're on target with your fat grams, MsMary. When I did fat-gram-counting years ago (with a nutritionist), my target number was 35 grams per day.

Well, I'm not always getting the recommended amount. In fact, I was low 3 out of 4 days this week. Though yesterday, I was two grams over, oddly, so maybe it balances out, in the long run.

I wouldn't think so. If you, for a prolonged period of time, starve your body, your general metabolism will go down however.

This (contrary to popular belief) can't happen without: a: Your average body temperature going down, or b: your activity level going down. The activity level can be HIGHLY subconscious.

It has been shown that office workers performing the same job have as big a variation as 25% of overall energy expenditure, simply from differences in the non-exercise related movements. Things like getting up and opening windows, shufling in your seat, stretching, using the stairs etc. It was a real eye opener to me to make the calculation, that I (working on the 5th floor) will actually use up energy coresponding to 1 g of pure fat just by walking up the stairs. And that is using a 100% energy efficiency on movement. Judging from my increased pulse, transpiration and respiration frequency AND my knowledge of biomechanics, it's likely to be a lot closer to 2 g ;)

I was asked by Aliantha to join you guys over here, because I revealed (in the galley of all places) that I was trying to lose weight (40 lbs).

I am going for the Preb patented diet: Eat less, exercise more. Just about the most unpopular diet there is, but the only one that works.

When I say eat less I mean less energy, not less by volume.

So far just making the first two days af no candy, no junk-food, filling up on more lean protein less carbs at main meals, has gotten me three pounds of the way. Yes, yes, I know. It's water ;)

Congratulations Prebe! You will make it!!

Day 4 for me without candy..

if i want to eat Fast food i buy a Döner (hope you now what that is) without flesh and cheese or noodles with vegetables in chinese restaurants

i think i would never cope with a diet where i have to count gramms of fat and so on..
but i was very happy with the weight watchers points a few years ago
