I just booked that site for Thursday. I have a gas lamp, two coolers, a gas stove and tent. I have the air matress pump but will have to dig through my shed to find the attachments. I'll also bring frying pan, coffee pot and 3 mugs. I'll need to buy a new air matress and sleeping bag-both of which are cheap at K-mart. I'll also bring plastic plates and cups and buy a bag of charcoal. And flashights of course.

I just wanted some alone time, but if Cag wants to get together or anyone else arrives Thursday-I'll PM you my # if you don't already have it-we can do something...ally is someone else picking you up or are you renting a car straight from the RR station?

8)

Oh, and Cag, if you could find me the closest CostCo (for cheaper gas) I'd appreciate it.

I'm going to see if I can get a later flight back home on Sunday--that is, if it doesn't cost as much as the original roundtrip flight. Stay tuned. ;)

The only CostCo I know of is far enough away to not make it worth spending extra money to drive there. But maybe on the way in it wouldn't be too bad. It's essentially at I-70 and Wadsworth (unless I'm confused about what store it is). To be honest, the cheapest gas I know of nearby is at King Soopers not too far from my house, but only if you have a card. You either get a 3 cent or 10 cent discount depending on how much you have spent at their stores. King Soopers is also known as Kroger or Dillons, and, I might be wrong, but I think those cards would work as well. Oh, just checked my card and Fry's and City Market is also listed. Not all King Soopers sells gas though. And while I've never been to CostCo, it is news to me that they sell gas.

And as the little lady and I have to be at work at 5am, we probably won't want to participate in a get-together the night before as we have an early bedtime. But the doors will be open on Friday when we get home from work, probably somewhere in the realm of 2:30-3:00pm.

So, campsite or hotel it may be for Sunday night.
Although I think magickmaker has an early rise for her flight Monday morning.

Just to clarify that: leaving SF on the Monday but leaving Denver early on Sunday morning.

Dear gods, we may need a spreadsheet for all the comings and goings...

You are my new best friend. I was gonna haul the whole camp kitchen (okay, I'm whining here -- it all fits into a small duffel bag -- but still) but with your gear list, now I can pick and choose. I'll definitely bring the Lexan picnic set for 4 (plate/bowl/cup/utensils), the backpacking teapot (it's adorable...), a backpacking stove (nothing wrong with having two stoves ;) ), the pot/pan set and the Bakepacker. Oh! and the Lexan wine glasses.

This is so cool -- we get to teach Menolly the *right* way to camp!

danlo, don't worry about the air mattress pump unless you're bringing it for yourself. Menolly and Magickmaker will have self-inflating mattresses and mine isn't that hard to blow up.
danlo wrote:ally is someone else picking you up or are you renting a car straight from the RR station?
Thelma and Louise were planning to pick me up. But yeah, I'm anticipating getting the car almost immediately. The rental place is not right at the train station but I think it's pretty close.

Hmm, I wonder if my old King Soopers discount card still works.... I wonder if I can *find* my old King Soopers discount card....

I thought you had a Kroger card? I do if you don't. So, danlo, if they work, you're welcome to borrow it.

So...

I don't need to bring along any dutch oven recipes?

Good. I haven't camped in years and wasn't sure how effective they would be...

Still...we could always try the key lime pie in the solar oven...

lol, if you have a solar oven. Those things are a pain, though. I tried to use one...once....we had still mostly runny cake batter. it was pretty good...but never again.

Menolly, if you want to haul a dutch oven and a solar oven along with you on the plane, feel free. 8O  I tend to stick to one-pot meals on the stove rather than digging a pit, etc., for the dutch oven.

I *may* try some stuff out of this cookbook, which I bought a couple of years ago and haven't really used yet.

I have, however, used this little gem with some success. I am told the Dutch Baby pancake (the recipe comes with, but it's also on the website) is really, really yummy.

And I'm starting to think we should move this part of the discussion to the Galley....

Moved per request. ;)

...speaking of early...

Any plans for Saturday morning in Denver, like getting together for breakfast again? If so, what time? Or does everyone plan on sleeping in after a late night Friday?

I have an online friend of over a decade who lives in the same area of Denver as cag. We have never met, and I have tentative plans to go to Shabbos services with her Saturday morning (I went on my own in Albuquerque).

She and I have never met in real life, and the possibility of meeting her has me really excited. It is part of the reason why I chose Denver over SF. But, I really don't want to miss any part of Seafest; at times I look at the breakfast pictures from Albuquerque in the album and really regret I skipped that. And I wouldn't be finished with services until close to 2:00 PM Saturday.

I think we're going to have to play certain things by ear (unfortunately). Things like that I'd assume won't be decided upon until we're there.

If there is a possibility of everyone getting together Sunday morning for breakfast before y'all hit the road, I would be OK with maybe missing out on a Saturday breakfast. But if anything were to be planned say at noon that need transportation out there, I would hate not being able to catch up with everyone.

I usually operate best that way myself.

ooh, just remember that I'm seeing you in 3 weeks...and I will remember this that far into the future. I'll steal your coffee. all of it. and refuse to let you have more.
And don't call me Ames. People have been maimed for that. Just ask Ali. Who, by the way, wants me to tell you that she's ducking.
That is all. See you in three weeks!
