Try Stay with Ewan McGregor. Sort of odd (OK, really odd), but pretty good. Similar to 21 Grams but better executed I think.

I like odd stuff--last DVD I rented was as far from that as possible: Annapolis which is kinda like An Officer and a Gentleman meets Rocky--It was entertaining, at least---your neck of the woods. (Naomi Watts is in Stay?8O OOO another Austrailian hottie! )

IIRC, they wouldn't let them film that at the Naval Academy. I think there might have been some exterior shots done here, but everything else was done elsewhere.

Is there really a shipyard directly across the river from Annapolis? I was usually sleeping, reading or getting pumped up on the Washington College bus on the way to a soccer or lacrosse game whenever we went by in '76/'77 so I don't really remember...

No. I think they did a lot of filming in Camden, NJ and Philly which are across the river from each other.

This French movie I've been wanting to see for a long time is finally out on dvd, and it came in the mail today from Netflix. :)

It deals with one of my favorite moments in history - the famous Christmas truce of WWI, where the soldiers on both sides broke orders and stopped fighting and made friends at Christmas. 8) Unfortunately, after a few days the officers forced them to start fighting again. :?

The movie is called Joyeux Noel (Merry Christmas). 8)

So if my menfolk actually give me access to the TV tonight, I know what I will be watching. :)

It has only come out in the last week or so here in the US. It would certainly be worth your time checking to see if it is out in Oz as well. :)

Here's my review of it from the Hangar:

Watched Stay, based on Cail's recommendation, with Ewan MacGregor, Ryan Gosling and Naomi Watts. Weird and intriguing flux-piece...that I'm still trying to figure out. The acting was incredibly sincere, Gosling was wild and I still can't forget Bob Hoskins' first sceen. Music: outstanding. For some reason this reminds me of K-Pax, The Lathe of Heaven, In Dreams and The Sixth Sense with a dash of Jacob's Ladder thrown in here and there. Definately worth your while.

I'm watching the 1st making-of disc for The Two Towers Extended Edition. Hours of stuff on Tolkien, the script, make-up, Weta Digital, etc. Love all my LOTR Extended Editions.

Just back from Jackass Number Two (is there a thread on it? couldnt be bothered looking )

Hilarious. Disgusting. Painful.

There I was yesterday, doing some holiday shopping at Target - and there, in their $1 dvd bin - was a movie I could not resist purchasing - Santa Claus Conquors the Martians. Image

I also have Superman, Superman 2, and Superman Returns on their way from netflix. This weekend I am hoping to have a Superman marathon. Image
