I did not have the energy to read this entire thread, but I found this:

I'm listening to the Mummer's Dance, by Loreena McKennitt. It is so cool.
I simply love Loreena McKennit! I (think) I have all her albums, except for one that disappeared (with "The King", I miss it so!, it may have been called To blow the cold winter away). I have a hard time to decide which of her albums I like most. The Visit is wonderful. The rather new, Book of secrets is rather nice to (especially the Highwayman). She has the most amazing voice!

Other things I listen to: Clannad, Enya, The Pogues (and the Popes), Levellers, Oysterband, the Dubliners, Anuna, Cappercaillie, Mary Black, some folk music bands from Sweden (some of you might have heard of Garmarna? At least they tried to tour in the states a few years ago, I saw them in Uppsala three weeks ago. They sing a lot of medieval ballads, with rather long lyrics).

And I have to admit that I do listen to Jethro Tull... Some of their fantasy-inspired songs are lovely (heavy horses is my favourite). And Suzanne Vega. And KD Lang. And PJ Harvey. And Nick Cave.

Loreena McKennit comes from a small town in Canada about a two hour drive from here. That town is the site of a huge Shakespeare theater festival, and I think that growing up in a town like that surrounded by world class actors and theater and arts has had a good affect on her work. :)
This morning I am listening to Modest Mouse. 8)

I knew Loreena McKennit came from Canada, but that was all... But she must have been traveling a lot. One of her songs on the Mask and Mirror, Marrakesh Night Market, was an absolute perfect description of the place (I have been there during Ramadan once, it was amazing) and captured the spirit in the music as well. She played in stockholm when I was too young to be admitted (they served beer next to the stage) - very annoying...

Yeah Loreena McKennit's great ... wife loves her music ... especially Mummer's Dance ... that's my favourite song of hers ... great tune.

Good to see a Nick Cave fan here :) there's a couple of polar opposites, McKennit and Cave, can you imagine Loreena getting into a duet reprisal of :

"We discussed the murder.
We discussed the murder plan.
Murder takes the wheel of the cadillac.
And death rides in the back."

or :

"And the walls ran red around me,
a warm arterial spray."

:D I don't think I could see it!

Hoom, no I never thought of all my favourite singers singing together... It would be interresting though. Like with books, you chose the music of the day by your own mood. If all moods came along at once - I think my brain would explode...

But I definitely think that Nick Cave could sing along in the Highwayman:
... They said no word to the landlord, they drank his ale instead,
but they gagged his daughter and bound her to the foot of her narrow bed,
Two of them knelt at the casement, with muskets at their side,
There was death at every window, and hell at one dark window,
For Bess could see, though the casement, the road that he would ride...

They had tied her up to attention, with many a sniggering jest,
they had bound a muscet beside her, with the barrel beneath her brest,
"Now keep good watch!" and they kissed her,
she heard the dead man say - Look for me by the moonlight, I will come to thee by the moonlight, through hell sould bar the way!

She twisted her hands behind her, but all the knots held good,
she writhed her hands till her fingers were wet with sweat or blood,
thye stretched and strained in the darkness and the hours crawled by like years!
Till, now, on the stroke of midnight, cold on the stroke of midnight,
The tip of one finger touched it! The trigger at least was hers!...
I will spare you the terrible ending.

Just got Josh Groban's new one today "Closer". LOVE IT!! "Raise Me Up" is awesome...

When I am down and, oh my soul, so weary
When troubles come and my heart burdens be
Then, I am still and wait here in the silence
Until you come and sit awhile with me.

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders
You raise me up...to more then I can be.

Just beautiful :)

That's the way!

I myself listened to some Bach last night. My favorite of Bach's is Concerto No. 1, In F Major: II. Adagio.
