And I have to admit that I do listen to Jethro Tull... Some of their fantasy-inspired songs are lovely (heavy horses is my favourite). And Suzanne Vega. And KD Lang. And PJ Harvey. And Nick Cave.

Loreena McKennit comes from a small town in Canada about a two hour drive from here. That town is the site of a huge Shakespeare theater festival, and I think that growing up in a town like that surrounded by world class actors and theater and arts has had a good affect on her work.
This morning I am listening to Modest Mouse.

I knew Loreena McKennit came from Canada, but that was all... But she must have been traveling a lot. One of her songs on the Mask and Mirror, Marrakesh Night Market, was an absolute perfect description of the place (I have been there during Ramadan once, it was amazing) and captured the spirit in the music as well. She played in stockholm when I was too young to be admitted (they served beer next to the stage) - very annoying...

Yeah Loreena McKennit's great ... wife loves her music ... especially Mummer's Dance ... that's my favourite song of hers ... great tune.

Good to see a Nick Cave fan here there's a couple of polar opposites, McKennit and Cave, can you imagine Loreena getting into a duet reprisal of :

"We discussed the murder.
We discussed the murder plan.

And death rides in the back."

or :

"And the walls ran red around me,
a warm arterial spray."

I don't think I could see it!

Hoom, no I never thought of all my favourite singers singing together... It would be interresting though. Like with books, you chose the music of the day by your own mood. If all moods came along at once - I think my brain would explode...

But I definitely think that Nick Cave could sing along in the Highwayman:

I've been getting into listening to jazz lately. Recently, I picked up soultrane and Traneing In by John Coltrane, and It's Monk's Time by Thelonious Monk.

I have to get Room on Fire, Duchess. Tell me what you think of it cause I'm probably going go buy it...

I'm continuing going through a jazz phase. Picked up Kind of Blue by Miles Davis.

I'm in a classsic rock mood tonight...lots of the Beatles, including their new CD...

Ottmar Liebert's Christmas in Santa Fe, along with several jazz compilation Christmas CD's.

I'm listening tonight to a couple of Schubert's early symphonies. The 3rd and the 5th.
