Howdy, Ki. Glad you're doin' better.

Ok, so I've had an eventfull last 24 hours. Yesterday morning we got our brand new, 10 week old puppy. She is adorable. And she's fun and very playful already. My son and her are already getting along great. So that's been fun.

However, last night was one of the worst rain storms we've ever had. He had gotten a lot of rain the weekend before, so the ground was already saturated. Then on top of that, last night we had about 4 inches of rain in about an hour and a half. Large portions of town are still underwater this afternoon from all the flooding. And our basement flooded some as well - water leaking at first, then running like a waterfall in through the basement window. Fortunately, my wife was downstairs when it started, so we had some warning, and got all the important stuff up to safety. We ended up with just a little standing water, that just barely made it into the finished area of the basement, so it could have been a lot worse. (There were people who were trapped at work overnight becuase of the flooded streets and parking lots..... ). It was still a scary experience though.

Today - lots and lots of clean up.......

I bet that was scary! I'm glad that it wasn't worse than it was, but still it sucks you have to deal with the aftermath. I hope it goes fast for you.

FYI

I live about five Km east of Porters Lake..there is a lake and an inlet between me and the fire, but I have no access to the city, or my parents, who live in lake echo, which is right inbetween the two largest evacuated comunities....obviously I know LOTS of people effected by this.

I am feeling slightly whelmed, very relieved, and quite content. I am whelmed because I got home less than 24 hours ago from three internet-less weeks in Mexico, only to discover 165 e-mails waiting for me (only four of which were junk mail). I still have yet to read most of it. I am relieved because while I was in Mexico I heard about all the rain happening in Wisconsin (I live in one of the areas affected by the flooding), and I came home to a dry house. I am content because my three weeks in Mexico were fabulous (despite my being there to study), and now I can enjoy being home and sharing my experiences with everyone I can coerce into listening to me.

I feel tired but good and alternately happy and sad. I'm happy that Cov is still here. I snugged him and tucked him in before I set out for work whether he liked it or not. I'm sad that everyone else has gone home. It was very hard for me not to cry a little when I hugged Damelon and dlbpharmd goodbye. I miss everyone already. But I am happy that I got to have such great times with everyone and I am totally looking forward to Denver. I'm just a mishmosh of sappiness today.

I spent most of yesterday trying to restructure the basement after our water issue. All things considered though, it could have been much worse.

Auleliel, glad to hear your place stayed dry. It sounded like your area of WI got hit pretty bad also.

Drew, that's pretty frightening. Hope things turn out ok for everyone you know.

I'm a little frustrated today - potty training our new puppy is somewhat more of a struggle than I expected. It turns out the breeder had the pups trained to go on paper. Apparently, the closest thing to that we have in our house is the living room rug. So, despite very close watching, we've had lots of accidents. Not, in and of itself, a huge problem. We just figured we'd catch her when she squats, and redirect her outside. Problem is, she doesn't like going on the grass. So she holds it outside, for 10, 20, 45 minutes, then when we give up, we go inside and she immeaditaley pees on the rug. If she weren't so cute........

Oh, and I'm totally jealous see all the pics from Seafest.

I feel a lot better psychically-nose still running a bit-but good. Wow take care you guys near to that fire and flooding! I've been distributing letters to all the neighbors on my block about the Qwest fiasco and trying to get them involved in a lawsuit. At least the contractor in charge of the idiots who flooded my yard has volunteered to re sod a good chunk of my lawn. On Friday and Monday, while I'm away, the rest of my home's renovations should be completed.

98 degrees and kinda cloudy here. I take Tam and Elora to the airport first thing Thursday morning, then my contractor and I will empty the storage unit and then off to Denver! Now time to start rereading FR to keep up with the dissection. (btw: Shutty just put up chapt. 4 and it's a darn good breakdown. Check it out!)

May i suggest...placing the newspaper outside,,and placing her on it. She is trained to the newspaper and inside,,so,,must be redirected to the outside. Eventually the dog will not need the newspaper outside either.

Dam! water everywhere! I hope my donation to the red cross is being used wisely.

Thanks, lurch. Already tried it. It turns out that the motion of the paper caused by the wind is far too distracting for anything as mundane as peeing. Also, since she a pretty small dog, it hard to always be sure when she's going - being so low to the ground and all. Ahh, we'll get there. It's just going to take patience, and consistancy.

My illness had a bit of a relapse, I believe, as my throat has been sore, but I think it is starting to give up the new attack on my body and go away. I did some singing yesterday, and it felt pretty good, despite sounding a little hoarse. I suspect by this weekend, I'll be ready to go. And I played a touch of Rock Band to see if it is like riding a bike, and it is. I haven't forgot how to do it.

Thankful the work day is almost over.
I got to take two classes today - reception and year one for their library visits and stories. No prep, no advanced warning.

Had an epiphany regarding work, which was that if I am willing to put up with a massive amount of abuse for very little money, I can probably find something that doesn't involve spending six hours a day on public transportation.

Wish me luck, I'm job hunting again.
