I'm shocked!!! My letters had an immediate and amazing result. One of my neighbors called Del Rio-the contractor responsible and showed him the letter. He and the boss of the subcontractor showed up on my doorstep and apologized profusely (he was so scared he was visibly shaking) they promised to re sod my entire yawn (it didn't really need it) pay for the cracked tiles and hire an exterminator. And to personally apologize to each and every neighbor. My next door neighbor was so flipping impressed she told me I should run for mayor!

I'm feeling groovy. Just got home from a fantastic time in San Francisco. It was so fun I feel... I feel... not stressed! I'm mellow. I'm so mellow I hardly recognize myself.

Seafest: The San Franciscaning was a blast -- I had so much fun meeting everyone and seeing Luci, BloodGuard Bob and Jenn again. What a great job they did with the hosting! *salute*

It was kinda melancholy to leave. But it did me worlds of good to visit my favorite city and see all my favorite people.

Feeling pretty good, things getting on track. :D Still have to make a trip home next weekend to short my stuff out there, but after that, life should be easy for a while. (Oh damn, here's hoping... :LOLS: )

Antsy, a little. I'm all packed for the Denver train-plane trip. Leaving in a few hours. In the meantime, checking out the Watch one more time (I'm not taking the laptop so this is likely the last time I'll be on for awhile) and waiting for paint to dry.

When I was in high school, my dad made a desk for me. I think he found the plans in Popular Mechanics or something. Anyhow, he made it out of plywood mostly, with chipboard for the desktop. He was going for a marbleized effect on the top; unfortunately, the end result just looks like varnished chipboard. Plus the surface isn't flat -- you have to have something under your paper or the pen makes lots of little holes in it. And did I mention that the stuff stamped on the plywood showed through the varnish? Oh! and then, after I moved out, Mom put plants on it and ruined the finish on the top. All in all, it was a pretty ugly piece of furniture. But the lines are kinda cool. And, y'know, Dad made it for me. :grinlove:

So I retrieved the desk from Mom's over Memorial Day weekend. I'm in the process of painting it and will put polyurethane varnish over top of the paint. And I'm ditching the chipboard; I bought a tabletop for $20 at Ikea and will screw that sucker to the finished product. We've had absolutely lovely weather this past week, so I'm doing the painting now. The varnishing will have to wait 'til after Denver Seafest, and by then I'm sure we'll be into our traditional stinkin' hot summer weather here in DC, so I expect it'll be fall before I finish the whole project. But hey, progress! It already looks better than it did when I started.

Anyway, so yes, waiting for paint to dry. I've got just one more small section to put a second coat on, and then the painting's done.

Had to come in to work for a short while this morning. I won't be here very long though. After I leave today I need to get everything set so that CovJr and I can take off for Denver tomorrow. Got to do laundry and drop Moose off at Bloodguard Bob's and go hit the cheap mercantiles of Mission St to find CovJr a new carryon luggage piece. His split apart during the trip. Then I have to water all the plants up and pack and then tomorrow we go to make more fun memories. YAY! Life is GOOD!

well, after waiting for paint to dry, ali did the second coat on the last little bit of her desk, and then she took me out to Target so I could get a cord for my iPod so I could charge it. So, the iPod's charging, so I'll have tuneage for my trip across the fruited plain by plane....

all in all, its been a good morning so far! Ali leaves in a little more than an hour to catch her train, and then I'll have the place to myself!!!
Hmm....maybe I should start packing....
