Bought V For Vendetta, though not the 2-disc edition, cuz I didn't feel like spending the extra money (at this time).

Also finally picked up a copy of Pale Rider, Clint Eastwood's 1985 Western and put it on. I had never really seen the "whole" movie til now, just enough of it on TV that I came to like it. The DVD transfer could've been better, as the picture gets pretty grainy in places and is rather dark overall. But it's nice to have the movie in my collection now, anyway.

Pale Rider is a very mythic movie, like all Eastwood westerns, as I've come to realize. But I don't think I could have appreciated this western if I hadn't seen his later one first - Unforgiven, which opened my eyes to the possibilities of the western genre.

Will have to post further thoughts on Pale Rider and Unforgiven some other time.

Unforgiven is just a great movie, but I've never seen Pale Rider. The Outlaw Josey Wales is good also.

I bought the Untouchables last week.

Another great movie....De Niro is great as Capone.

I have a mixed opinion about DeNiro in The Untouchables. I felt he really hammed it up as Capone (it looked like he was doing a parody), but I thought Connery and Costner were both very good. I haven't seen this movie in years, so my memory could be distorted.

And hey, dlb and iQ, those are fine quotes from Unforgiven.

Yes, that's one lightning bolt of a line. Those words sum up the underlying message of the movie succinctly. Or one of the messages. Unforgiven is one of those incredibly deep movies that bear repeated viewing - really, it demands to be seen more than once. Beneath a deceptively simple surface story, the movie contains layers of meaning. That is the genius of both director Eastwood and scriptwriter David Webb Peoples.

I bought and watched Thunderball, the newly remastered version. This is part of the first wave of the "single" Bond DVD releases, separate from the deluxe boxed sets. It was only after I opened the case that I realized it truly was a "single" release - there was no bonus disc. Grrrr. Pays to read the label. Now I know why the single editions are selling for cheap.

The picture is very clean and sharp. The sound is okay, but even with the much-tooted inclusion of DTS 5.1, there's only so much one can do with movie audio tracks from that era. We've been so spoiled by modern movie sound.

I'm looking forward to grabbing both of the Dalton Bond flicks when they come available.

Finally bought "Lost" series 2 on DVD. yay!

Also, recently bought "Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas", "Name of the Rose", "Sleepy Hollow" (seeing the Johnny Depp bias??) and "Dangerous Liaisons".

Maybe I'll get some time in the next few weeks to actually WATCH them...

It's about time they released the Bond flicks as single DVDs. I've been wanting to buy the Bond movies on DVD, but I didn't want to plunk down $80 for a boxed set that didn't have all my favorites (Goldfinger, A View To A Kill, The Living Daylights, etc.) in it.

Bought Season 4 of the Ninja Turtles. Found it dirt-cheap at Wal-Mart. Didn't expect that one; was thinking I'd have to resort to Amazon.com or something. But nah--5 discs and 40 episodes: a double-shot of Saturday morning nostalgia!

Also got Starship Troopers, as my friend hadn't seen it since 98 or so. Had been a long time since I'd seen it myself, and I'm a big Verhoeven nut. It was definitely more his product than the book, to be sure.

I just watched 'The Untouchables'. Very good.

I just bough Spiderman 2 and Children of Men.

The German movie, Stalingrad arrived yesterday. Great movie. Cant wait to watch it on dvd.

Just bouth session 1 and 2 of Cowboy Bebop. Great stuff.

Got "Stargate Atlantis" season 1 boxed set recently - been busy relivin' the McShep fun!

if you get the chance, get the dvd.....all I can say is.....timeless!

I watched Peaceful Warrior twice, over a week ago (and then read The Journeys of Socrates, the prelude-to the books). I will buy this movie as a birthday present to myself.
