A Gunslinger wrote:The Island (Jacob?) seems to judge harshly regression by, or weakness of characters on it. Eko was given a chance to confess his sins and refused, and was killed.
I think that when our folks are challenged and they falter or regress the island (jacob) removes them from the chess board.
It does seem that the island has an agenda, but I'm not convinced that its judgments are reasonable, especially since Jacob asked Locke for help.
If Jacob is confined, how can it act? Is the black smoke on auto-pilot? And if he's not imprisoned in that way, why say, "Help me"? I imagine we'll be asking that question for a couple years.
As for the smoke's actions, why attack Ecko then and not earlier? Danielle referred to it simply as a security measure, which would explain its killing the pilot in the, um . . . pilot. But Locke and Ecko faced it and survived. The second time, Ecko tried to get away, which was when it attacked. This seems more in line with Rousseau's claim than a judgment of his soul.
I wonder; how many times has Danielle faced the smoke? She sure was matter-of-fact about it in Season 1.
A Gunslinger wrote:In prior flashbacks, Micheal's flaw was giving up, ceding control of his life and destination, then whining about it. On the island he became a leader of sorts, determing not only hs own direction, but that of his son, and others. Until, at least, he was gamed by Ben and the others into killing Ana Lucia (and Libby).
Ouch. I know a lot of people like that, including one that keeps staring back at me in the mirror. It's called settling.
But that's a transitory state, and Michael was willing to change. That he got manipulated into a corner is his own fault, but he's not the only one to blame.

Hey! They
didn't kill Charlie off last night. I was all braced for it all evening, they had the final backstory bit, and we have to wait until next week to be all heartbroken. Oh well, at least Merry has another week on the show. That's good.
Rumor spoiler here:
There is talk that 5 regular cast members are going to die next week. I wonder if the shooters don't survive. That would mean, Charlie, Sayid (or Rousseau), Bernard and Jinn are going to die. For the 5th, my guess is Rose, who might stay behind with Bernard. That would suck, but with the care of showing those picked, it makes me wonder if they are slated to die.
Can't believe I have to wait for a week to know how this is going to wrap up. Then it will be a painful wait until February 08.

If I was was going to pick someone to die, Ben gets my vote. Once an antagonist reaches the point where he cannot co-exist with the heroes, it's time for a major change.
If I were Rose, I'd be worried about Bernard too.
On Ben's resume, it says he only plays well with Others.

Actually, it's 5 in the month of May. Cooper is already gone in May, so the tally is 4 left, and John Locke may die (although I doubt it). I am sure there will be at least 1 or 2 big characters, but, I doubt more than 2, and possibly just 1. I say Ben, a smaller time "Other", 1 major LOSTie (Probably Sayid or Charlie) and 1 more. I'm not willing to sign any more death warrants, though.
I say Danielle will not die, she's too fantastic a dramatic actress for the writers to deprive themselves of the reunion with Alex (Or watching her grieve over the death of Alex) and I don't believe Locke, Sawyer, nor Jack will die.
Yes, the wait until Feb 2008 is going to be excruiating.

Dunno...we don't really know enough about Ben yet. It really won't stop them from killing him off, but I suspect he'll be around for a bit yet. The show messes with my expectations all the time, so why wouldn't they do something like this?

We didn't know anything about Ethan when they killed him, and we're still finding out things about him.
The only Other I'd be pissed about killing (besides Alex--is she an Other?), would be Richard. We could get all kinds of backstory on the Others and Ben from him.

Excellent episode, i wonder who the woman in the underwater hacth are; Annie? heh, shes got to be someone i reckon.
ETA: one of the woman looks like Lucy, the woman Sawyer conned ( and who was pregnant with his child ) who also helped Kate see her mother.

My girlfriend thought one of them may have been Cindy. Which is odd because during Ben's flashback, I thought Cindy was putting a lei around the Dharma folks necks.

5 in May, was what I have heard, Anthony Cooper is one of them.
From the rumors out there, I would say it's a good bet, there will be two and two. (Although if you look hard enough, you can find a spoiler for just about every single character being killed, so no way to know if are correct)

I'm thinking Desmond might be the other major character to die.

I'm not sure, Desmond is so wrapped up in this thing now with Penny and The Brazillians, and his time travelling. It just seems wrong to cut that cord so soon

I think Charlie is done for. I think Desmond lied about how he would die, but not that he was going to, in order to make him less afraid.

Can someone help me out here? Prior to the episode where Ben tells Locke about Jacob ... where did we hear the name Jacob before??? Everyone seems to already have heard that name before the episode aired...

During Ben's Surgery "Christian wasn't even on jacob's list"
During the Brainwashing scene of Carl "God loves you as he Loved jacob"
Ben telling Juliet he would have Jacob cure Rachel's cancer
Also, all the references to "Him" and "He" and a magnificent leader, as being the top mucky, muck in the "Others" hierarchy were referring to jacob, not Ben.

So, what's with the lists?
Is anyone else feeling a deja vu over the season finale? Didn't Jack and Sayid have a "plan" last year?
I really hate cliff-hangers, especially the kind that we endured at the end of the last 2 seasons. It won't be so bad if something actually happens during the first hour, and if the plans don't go entirely snafu'ed.
And if they kill Ben. I'm real tired of his drivel, which is so obvious now I'm tempted to use the mute button.

Tonight is the season finale. Hope it is good. Actually, I'm pretty sure it will be good. The past few have been. I'm readying myself for the craziness.
Cheer up Charlie, you are only going to die.

So, my wife finally caught up with the Tivo in time for the season finale, and when the 2 women burst in on Charlie in the Looking Glass, what popped into her mind was an old beer commercial:
Two astronauts on a planet of Amazons. "So, all you drink is (insert beer brand), we're the only men here, and we can never leave?"

Wow.
LOL moment: Rose telling Jack "If oyu say 'Live together Die Alone...I'll punch you in the face."
Sayid is never wrong.
YAY Hugo!
Charlie's doom was sad and predicable. Just as I was liking him, he got toasted. Hey...did anyone else note that "future" Jack said his Father was still alive? What up with that? How could it be?
Who's funeral did NO ONE attend? Ben's? Whats the deal is no one really dead? What about Naomi saying that they were all found and were considered "dead"? Was it just a lie? Where did Locke go? WHAT THE FLAMING HOLY HELL is HAPPENING??!!!!! AAAAAAAGGGHHHH!
I love this show, dammit.
