This was the second last night of the New Music Festival here in Winnipeg, and it was another great concert. It was all devoted to a percussion ensemble called Scrap Arts Music. This is the blurb on them:

For sheer crowd-pleasing entertainment, you can't go wrong with them. The energy and physicality of this ensemble is breathtaking! The Festival audience gave them a standing ovation, and they deserved no less. ScrapArtsMusic isn't just about drums: over the course of the show (just over an hour in length), they produced amusing and startling sounds out of all sorts of objects. If they ever come to your city, I hope you go out to see them!

As I said over on the Hangar, they put me in mind of a more instrument-focused Stomp, and my whole family loves Stomp. Will seek them out should they head this way.

The Chariot of Choir - a 30 ft long aluminum instrument created by Greg Kozek, the man talking in the bottom pic. (He is also the fellow seen performing with ScrapArtsMusic.) The Chariot looks like a beast, but it actually produces an ethereal, shimmering sound from its strings (I'm guessing piano wire).

No Alice's Restaurant for us, but his stories and the laughter more than made up for it. I had no idea he is so awesome live; I simply wanted to hear City of New Orleans and Coming into Los Angeles and I would have been happy. But it was so much more.

Even though Beorn thought the only song he knew was Alice's Restaurant, you should have seen the "O" his mouth made when he heard the chorus of City of New Orleans, recognizing it from the commercial. And the whole This Land is Your Land and The Joseph Story, which I have a reason to post in the Pantheon Music thread, lit his face up like you wouldn't believe...

I've never gone to a show without actual tickets in hand before. The idea of simply walking up the day of the show and giving my name, and expecting to get in...

I just found out that Def Leppard, Poison, and Cheap Trick are playing in Virginia on my birthday.

That would have been sweet. Apparently they're planning a plugged-in Tap tour for the summer.

I read a bit about the Tap on Wikipedia; I didn't know they did stuff before 'This Is Spinal Tap', but apparently they did.

Avenged Sevenfold will be in Amarillo on April 9th. I will be there.

I saw them last year and they are absolutely amazing live! This time though, we won't have to drive four hours to see them.

Disturbed is here on the 29th-must find some way to get there!

Any Boston people here been to the new House of Blues on Landsdowne St. yet? I'm going to a couple shows there in the upcoming months and I haven't seen the inside yet; curious to know what anyone thinks.
