Joyeux Noel arrived today. Though I still do not have Kate Beckinsale, my life is complete.

Highlander. I'd forgotten how crummy it is, and just how dreadful Christopher Lambert's accent sounds. Sean Connery as an Egyptian called Juan Ramirez can only be good though.

He isn't a Spaniard, he's an Egyptian.
Or lying.

I really liked that movie when it first came out.. . Sean Connery was still smoking hot--and I could have cared less which accent he had.

I love the Queen ballad in it. . "Who Wants to Live Forever". . great song!

One of the best ideas
ever... and then they made two more.
It had sort of a film noir feel to it that was really cool. Also the movie that got me into Queen, so yey!

Finally bought Day of the Jackal. Had been waiting for it to drop to the right price for me. It's one of my all-time favorite detective thrillers (or whatever other arbitrary genre you wanna put it in).
I mean the original, not the idiotic '90s remake.

As the novel is one of my favourite books, I never dared watch the Bruce Willis 'adaptation'. I did watch the Edward Fox original, though - but even that disgusted me a little. It badly understates the Jackal's resourcefulness. In the book, the Jackal gets as far as he does by planning, inspiration and months of meticulous preparation. The film places too much emphasis on chance and luck.

Just watched Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man's Chest.
Wonderful. Simply wonderful. Davy Jones and his crew were nothing short of spectacular. Bring on the third movie!

The Last King of Scotland. Wow. Some simplistic cinematic methods at times (the words plot device come to mind), but overall a pretty powerful movie. Now I want to go see how historically accurate the details were.

Didn't want to see it going in, but I just saw "We Are Marshall" and Wow! That is a great flick! The kind of movie hollywood does good every so often. Not my normal fare, but I am totally impressed with how it was done: acting, directing, music, hitting the right emotions, etc. Couple over done scenes, but minor stuff. I highly recommend this movie.

Haha, if
I hated the Bruce Willis remake, I wonder what sort of reaction it would provoke from
you. No, never mind, it's not worth wasting two hours of your life on.
Watched the Edward Fox version just now...still enjoyed the movie but not the picture quality, which wasn't much better than off-the-air TV reception. It's one of those crappy, lower-than-DVD-resolution transfers with dust and dirt still in the picture. I hate it when they deceptively sell crap like this to consumers. Companies should either do a proper job of transferring their films onto DVD, or they shouldn't bother at all -- especially in the case of a relatively major film like Day of the Jackal. At any rate, I think I'm ready to look for the novel now.

CASSHERN
Anyone ever heard of it?
It's Japanese and we watched most of it last night, until my dodgy dvd player overheated and started skipping and stalling and stuff.
Anyway, it's a futuristic cross between 1984, X-men, Day of the Dead, and the video of 'Another Brick in the Wall' by Pink Floyd, with a bit of 'City of Lost Children' thrown in for good measure.
I am completely undecided whether it was one of the best films I've ever seen or a pile of dung.
I'm in two minds whether to finish watching it or not. I have a bad feeling the ending will put it firmly in the pile of dung category. BUT the action was getting interesting, with the gigantic (and I mean GIGANTIC) robot squishing all the mad sportscar-type tanks and letting off about 2000 heatseeker missiles from each hand.
By the way - it's not animation.

Beerfest! OMG, I loved this movie. Gonna have to watch it again before I send it back. Zeke from Lost is in it. He's awesome.
