I think the reason TC hears ''Berek'' is because he doesnt understand what has just happened too him.
The events of LFB are still on his mind, and seen as he's heard Berek references for the past couple of ''Land'' months its not surprising he hears it again.
I think he just misheard.

But if you're all about the destination, then take a fucking flight.

Agreed. I think in the beginning of TPTP that he calls the club looking for her, and gets referred to her somehow and she says "mister, I called you "Derrick" or something along those lines. I think the purpose of that whole scene was to show how wacked out TC is at this point, and how he is being treated by the community.Warmark wrote:I think the reason TC hears ''Berek'' is because he doesnt understand what has just happened too him.

Berek, and TC have the same half hand... jerimiah is actually missing the two fingers TC still has... so i doubt it will be jermiah....

ohh and thanks for correcting my "berret" mistake... I had forgotten that SRD had written that in...

In Covenant's case? I think the First Chronicles mentioned somewhere that he misses the last two fingers of his hand (ring and little finger)... but I don't have the books here right now, so I can't find out the exact passage. I seem to remember it was mentioned somewhere when describing how they had found out he had leprosy, though...Buckarama wrote:Is there a reference to which two fingers are missing? All I remember(but I'm getting old now) is that they called him half hand. I don't remember SRD saying which fingers are missing.

I had pondered the Berek/TC question thinking that perhaps the "cleaving of the hand in battle" might just be legend that was CREATED to cover for the time conundrum that would place TC at the battle. I mean, why not?
In the end, I figured that SRD was far more wiley than me, and that Berek is simply Berek.
However, the Law of Death is broken and clearly the Law of Time is hardly unbendable... we'll see some Old Lords/ Probably Kevin and Mhoram, if not Elena (catfight with linded! Catfight! Wheee!)

haha cat fight indeed... I'm glad someone was able to see the possibility and word it better than I did... I think you may be giving up too easily though... would it be poor writtng for SRD to work TC in going back to the time of Berek for the battle? Is there not a little correlation to that in that the Demondim are chasing him at the end of runes?

A catfight with Elena and Linden is plausible. IIRC, Elena was stuck fighting dead Kevin under Melenkurion Skyweir for a long time after Covenant & Bannor escaped. Several hours at least. Who knows who else could have gatecrashed the party?

Which if they faought for several hours that would have made Elena a better lord than I would have given her credit for, this again brings up the debate about lord morham and how well he stacked up next to the likes of Kevin landwaster.
I would say the Morham was a much better lord then Elena, but maybe not, maybe she was just nuts

Elena was chosen as High Lord by the council after the death of Osondrea because the other Lords perceived her as having some indefinable quality, some edge, that made them think she was the right dudess for the gig (ie the forthcoming war) - not Mhoram. By general consensus, his time had not yet come, he even said so himself.
Sure, Elena was as mad as a balloon. But the fact that she was unhinged, the fact that she harboured such hate (the look of apocalypse SRD described in the chapter Lena's Daughter (wish I had a copy of the Illearth War on me) as well as weilding the Staff of Law, makes her someone you wouldn't wanna mess with. I think it makes her arguably the most powerful of the New Lords - easily the most powerful up until that point. Being a bit of a psycho is what gave her that edge, IMHO.
Of course, Mhoram eventually transcended such things.

I agree that Elena was probably the most powerful of the New Lords, particularly before Mhoram learned the secret of the Ritual of Desecration. She had possession of the Staff of Law for several years and had to be quite accustomed to using it, and as mentioned above she held her own against Kevin for some time. But Kevin didn't have a staff at all......was he just powerful because of the Illearth Stone, or was he powerful by some other means?

Powerful because he was one of the dead, powerful in his own right as the founder of Kevin's Lore, and inhanced by the Illearth Stone. I'm surprised Elena lasted as long as she did.
Also, just realized that Covenant can't be Berek because he saw dead Berek when all the dead Lords appeared in the throne hall of Foul's Creche at the end of The Power that Preserves.
