Why don't we have an emoticon which moons people?

because someone would be offended?
Self-importance is man's greatest enemy. What weakens him is feeling offended by the deeds and misdeeds of his fellow men. Self-importance requires that one spend most of one's life offended by something or someone.--Don Juan

I don't see what all the fuss is about. Let us have our flirtacious fun and just label it clearly with something like the FLIRTING THREAD. Gah! It's not that big a deal folks. I also hope someone adds those pics of SBG's little ones and Ducky with granddaughter into the album though.

my 2c goes something like this:
I don't really care about multiple threads dealing with essentially the same topic if people really want to do that. However, in my opinion we have to be consistent (for the sake of being fair) and I do remember (for example) Sarge being told a few months back not to have multiple threads dealing with topics that were similar.
As for what the threads are about: <shrug> I don't care about the topics (although I must say I'm one of these people who have been thinking things have got a bit "strange" on the Watch recently).
My beef is when threads deteriorate constantly into flirting and sexual innuendo. And, nup, this has nothing to do with me being jealous because I'm not getting enough/any/whatever attention [although...lol! thanx for the "honourable mention" Phantasm!]. In all fairness I have from time to time participated in such flirting. I'm not saying "hey, let's put an end to all this." I am not offended by it. I'm open to freedom of expression etc.
I just get sick of coming across it on every page of every thread (a slight exaggeration but it's not too far off the mark). Flirting, sexual references, that kind of thing *is* fun but gosh it can get really boring after a while (that is, for those of us who are standing around "watching" it).
In a real life situation (well, the ones I've been in) people flirt, and then they do something about it eg: they go on a hot date (or they then slink back to their husbands or wives

). That isn't necessarily possible in this situation. If a hot date isn't an option, my suggestion would be pm each other, ring each other up on the phone, email each other, get yourselves a webcam and go for it...or something like that. Of course, maybe it's just all "harmless fun" in the sense that it's ego stroking etc and part of that ego stroking involves flirting in a public forum. If that's the case...well...I dunno...I prefer to stroke people's ego in private (but that's just me!).
For those who say "hey Seareach, just ignore it", I reply "I'd happily ignore it but it's bit hard to when I have to sift through it in nearly every general discussion thread (and elsewhere)".
I just think that the "self policing" has got a bit lax recently.
Of course, this is just my opinion.

from books, from memory, from google. I lack the ability to put my thoughts and feelings into words as appropriately or eloquently as others much wiser and much better at it than I. Plus people hate it for some reason....

No, the real reason is that now that I've seen the one that Esmer posted, I have to say that a smilie face's buttock is a rather disturbing sight.

I agree that if you guys want to take the flirting and such to a specific place then that's cool but I disagree with statements about threads disintegrating constantly. YES, some threads have been hijacked. I would also like to point out that some threads have started OUT with the flirting as a given. Some threads have been hijacked momentarily and then put right back on track. If you look at the thread list in general discussion the threads that have had momentary lapses are FAR outnumbered by the ones that haven't. It also occurs to me that several people who have protested the flirting have participated it on threads that have titles that COULD NOT BE MISTAKEN for threads that may contain risque material. I think it's simple, make a place for silly meaningless flirtation and then if a thread gets hijacked by something of this nature then take it to the flirt tank.

Mabye all flirting threads should be moved to the 'Tank. That way if it get's contraversial it's already in the perfect place!

Well said, Sea. I agree with your perspective.
I give CovenantJr my total support. Being a mod is a thankless task, and this latest brouhaha demonstrates yet again the flak that mods have to put up with in performing their duties - i.e. moderating the board, whether it is about moderating the silliness here or the seriousness there (the Tank).
My personal view is that those who complain every time a mod or admin locks a thread don't realize how good they've got it here at KW. I'm reminded of the saying, "Give 'em an inch and they want a mile."

With all the ... turmoil ... its almost like the Watch has been hit with Caesures, Kevin's Dirt, and the Sunbane all at once!!
Where is the staff of law when we need it!! And perhaps a little wild magic!!

I am ok with CovJr locking the thread and I understand his reasoning. I just think that maybe we should have a place for this silliness and that alot of grief can be avoided by something as simple as moving threads or portions of threads that go flirty to a specific place. I disagree that it is occurring all over the watch unless I have missed the flirt stuff in Scrabble scores/Chapter Dissections/The Galley/etc. I thought we were doing a good job of confining it to threads that warrant it for the most part with a few exceptions. If you click on a thread titled Man Crush/People you think are hot/ then don't complain, I think it's pretty self explanatory.

What SHE said! ^-^
hell, it's like censorship ya know...jeebuz crikey, if you DON'T wanna hear swear words or see nekky bits, DON'T BLOODY WATCH THE FILM! Same theory should apply for topics clearly marked as possible pr0n/silliness.
Bunch of moral high-horsers ruining freedom of choice again. Oh, and did you note the subtitle of the "GD" forum?
"Free, open, general chat on any topic."
yeah right.

Go Attila if you feel the need to censor me...I don't give a f**k anymore.
