This weekend I drove to Las Vegas to enjoy a friend's 30th birthday party. Her boyfriend hired a great band, put us up in a hotel.... and it's always fun in general when the whole group gets together. After driving back home this morning, I'm starting to have withdrawals already from all the laughter and smiling faces.

Can we talk about what we did, instead of what we're going to do?

Saturday, I took Younger Daughter and her friend to the fabric store to buy patterns and muslin for prom dresses. They intend to enter the Duck Tape scholarship contest and the rules say it's okay to make the costume out of fabric and put the tape over it. Neither one has sewn anything this elaborate before, and I'm not sure the friend has even a passing acquaintance with a sewing machine, plus she was easily distracted -- she'd pin one piece, start dancing to the stereo, then go back and cut it out, then play with the cat, etc. Lucky for her I'm just the adviser -- the girls have to do all the work themselves -- or I might have knocked her aside and cut it out myself.

Yesterday, I advised my daughter as she cut out *her* dress. Of course, she wants the top design from one pattern and the bottom from another, so it was kind of ugly.... I also did some knitting and made soup, and watched the snow fall. Oh, and Saturday I did my taxes (tentatively -- still waiting for my W-2 from work) and filed the FAFSA for Younger Daughter.

Of course you can, aliantha!!

I made a dress once in high school! It wasn't a prom type, though, it was a ren faire one... it's my favoritest dress ever! I just wish I had more cause to wear it...

So, I ended up going to an awesome show this weekend and heard some bands that I fell in love with (Apex Theory and Oriya) and ran into a guy I used to buy food from a couple years back... he's as lovely as ever and I'm a little more single than I used to be, so we'll see what happens...

Also got my grille installed! It didn't fit perfectly (I think my bumper may not be stock...) so I had to... uh... affix it with black zip ties. You SO can't tell, and now I can say it's a "custom fit" grille ;) I also got my intermittant wiper switch in, and lemme tell you! In a state where we have 75 different words for rain, I will be using ALL of my new speeds soon. Yay!

My bro and I found an apartment and will be moving next Saturday. I'm psyched!

I watched my kids. And watched my kids....and watched them some more. And then, right as I was going to take them home last night, I got a call from my ex saying she was taking my brother to the emergency room. Long story short, I watched the kids till 3:30 this morning, then finally got to go home, where I promptly couldn't get to sleep.

I'm afraid that he'll never be fine again (HE'S A LIFELONG ALCOHOLIC WHO ISN'T EVEN TRYING TO STOP), but thanks for the wishes, Jenn.

PS- My parents didn't always fight. I was making a joke, saying I watched Moonlighting, which was essentially a show about a couple fighting, in order to avoid my parents fighting.....truth was, I was already out on my own when Moonlighting aired.

Sorry to hear that dAN. I know that can't be easy to deal with so I am sending you a mental hug whether you want it or not.

Well, sounds like you got to spend some good quality time with your adorables. I moved the pic of them from the locked thread into the album. Hope you don't mind.

Heh, I let that go when you mentioned it, 'cause I was in college when that was on, and you're older than I am.

Sure, that's cool. But, if my kids divorce me, then I'll be hurt.

It could go against the grain of where they're trying to go, danlo.....
