The Beast is fantastic.

That shot of Richard Burton reminds me of Russell Crowe (who, by the way, was great in American Gangster) I've, really, never noticed the similarities before... 8O

Dr. Strangelove

The Manchurian Candidate.

How could you forget them?!

They've both been mentioned, Strangelove twice. The Manchurian Candidate is a great one-that and The Falcon and the Snowman are a great double feature.

Erm, hm...Patriot was decent too. I know alot of people don't, but I really enjoy Crimson Tide every time also.

The best of the Jack Ryan movies. Alec Baldwin was great in it.

Connery, Glenn, Jones, Neal, Skarsgard, Ackland, Curry, Jordan, Baldwin...just a fantastic cast played pitch perfect.

I just saw Fail Safe. Wow, not what I expected. Really great movie. I guess I was expecting a "we came close to the edge but didn't fall off" kind of movie. Was much better and very authentic. I think the black and white film added to the starkness of the film. The ending photo montage was striking.

I love On The Beach. It always captivates me but I have to admit Fred Astaire as a scientist was a stretch. I also wonder if people would have been so matter of fact and well behaved facing the end of the world.

I guarantee that if the End of the World were actually imminent and there was nothing that could be done to stop it then many people would degenerate into wild, rabid animals very quickly. Not all, mind you, but enough to make things incredibly difficult for those who remain rational.

This calls to mind the social experiment when people did not evacuate a smoke filled room because no one else moved first. Never underestimate the power of conformity, denial, and fatalism.
