My issues with the miniseries were with the actors (the guy from Wings was horrible) and with the direction.
Don't get me wrong, I really wanted to like it, but I thought it was a mess.

I'm tired and it can't all be "A" material.
Not to mention you edited the typo I was responding to, so with my mighty modly power, I'll just delete the admittedly lame riff on your fixed typo.
Freakin' knew I should've hit the damn "quote" tab.

That said, I agree with whoever said "remake the badly done, but conceptually great" movies.

what? WHAT?!?! you diss the glory that is "Hawk the Slayer" then turn around and ask for another "Krull"? shame on you.
heheh ... and "Krull rocked" ...?! well, admittedly it has been a long time since I saw it in the theatre, but even at that age, eager and impressionable I was for fantasy movies, I felt Krull was a little lame.
Now regarding Hawk the Slayer... don't get me wrong... I like it! Just only for it's campyness... it's great fun. And the over acting of Palance and the lack of acting from almost everyone else if great fun!
I am definately going to have to call up some buddies and relive that through another viewing...

Oh crap! I thought you were refering to the comic/movie The Phantom-not The Phantom of the Opera.

Great. So now they're remaking Clash of the Titans (1981).
IS NOTHING SACRED!?
Clash of the Titans 2008 (or '10)

I thought the videogame of Krull rocked. But I'm with Usivius on the movie. The only thing I remember is that everyone who died in it had an extended death scene with a few sentences of "last words." I thought it was goofy at the time. But I honestly can't remember the concept. Wasn't there some princess that needed saving or something? And one man who has the courage to go after her? I can't remember.
What I remember about Hawk the Slayer was pretty silly too, but I loved it. I remember most the elf who could shoot real fast which was brought out by simply doing a copy/paste of the previous footage of him shooting an arrow. But hey...when you have a small budget, you do what you can, right?
Now then...that Sword and the Sorcerer with the badass sword with 3 blades...with the outer two shooting out...
Yeah...I loved that movie. But it is dumb as well.

If we can include TV series remakes, I reckon they've done a MUCH better job with Battlestar Galactica now than the dodgy 70s version...

I haven't seen it, but man. I don't know. The old school Battlestar rocked some major ass. The movie at least.

I'm a recent convert for the new Battlestar Galactica series, and I was a huge fan of the original. Give it a try, Balon. I agree with Elfgirl that the pilot (well, if that is what the miniseries was) was better than most of the series. I've only watched that the the first disk of the series (thanks Netflix), but yeah...it's definitely better. And I loved the original Apollo's cameo (Richard Hatch, not to be confused with the naked tax-dodging Survivor guy).

the new BSG series is one of the best shows on TV, imo. it can be hard to break into, since it is a serial, so i recommend buying/renting the pilot movie and then 1st season dvd's and going from there. it is hard for me to think that any real science fiction fan wouldn't really enjoy it.

I
marginally prefer the look of the old Galactica ship, but otherwise, I agree that the new series is a quantum leap over the old. Give it a try, Balon.
(However, in my mind Dirk Benedict, Richard Hatch and Lorne Greene are so identified with their respective roles as Starbuck, Apollo and Adama that the new actors haven't quite supplanted them. And maybe never really will -- except Edward James Olmos, who's really made Adama his own.)

So we ARE talking about the Sci-Fi channel series, right? Or is there a new movie?
