Sad:
Two performed by Willie Nelson:
Poncho and Lefty.
Livin' on the road my friend, is gonna keep you free and clean
And now you wear your skin like iron, and your breath is hard as kerosene
Weren't you mamma's only boy-oy, her favourite one it seems
She began to cry when you said, good-bye, sank to your dream
Poncho was a bandit boy, his horse was fast as polished steel
He wore his gun outside his pants, for all the honest world to feel
Poncho met his match, you know, on the deserts down in Mexico
Nobody heard his dyin' word, but that's the way it goes
All the Federales, they say
They could have had him any day
They only let him slip a-away
Out of kindness I suppose
Lefty he can't sing the blues, all night long like he used to
The dust that Poncho bit down south, ended up in Lefty's mouth
The day they lay poor Poncho low, Lefty split for Ohio
Where he got the bread to go, there ain't nobody knows
All the Federales they say-ay
We could have had him any day
We only let him slip a-away
Out of kindness I suppose
The poets tell how Poncho fe-ell, and Lefty's livin' in cheap hote-els
The desert's quiet, Cleveland's cold, and so the story ends we're told
Poncho needs your prayers, it's true, save a few for Lefty too
He only did what he had to do, and now he's growin' old
All the Federales, they say
We could have had him any day
They only let him go so-o long
Out of kindness I suppose
A few grey Federales, they say-ay-ay
We could have had him any day
We only let him go so-o long
Out of kindness I suppose
And Seven Spanish Angles:
He looked down into her brown eyes,
Said, " Say a prayer for me."
She threw her arms around him,
Whispered, "God will keep us free."
They could hear the riders comin,
He said, "This is my last fight.
If they take me back to Texas,
They won't take me back alive."
Chorus
There were seven Spanish Angels,
At the alter of the Sun.
They were prayin' for the lovers,
In the valley of the gun.
When the battle stopped,
And the smoke cleared.
There was thunder from the throne.
And seven Spanish angels,
Took another angel home.
She reached down and picked the gun up,
That lay smokin in his hand.
She said, "Father please forgive me,
I can't make it without my man."
And she knew the gun was empty,
And she knew she couldn't win.
Her final prayer was answered,
When the rifles fired again.

Angry:
Get in the Ring by Guns n Roses (edited slightly for profanity)
Why do you look at me when you hate me
Why should I look at you when you make me hate you to
I sense a smell of retribution in the air
I don't even understand why the f*** you even care
And I don't need your jealousy yeah
Why drag me down in your misery
And when you stare don't you think I feel it
But I'm gonna deal it back to you in spades
When I'm havin' fun ya know I can't conceal it
'Cause I know you'd never cut it in my game- Oh no
And when you're talkin' about a vasectomy- Yeah
I'll be writin' down your obituary-
You got your b****es with
the silicone injections
Crystal meth and yeast infections
Bleached blond hair,
Collagen lip projections
Who are you to criticize my intentions
Got your subtle manipulative devices
Just like you I got my vices
I got a thought that would be nice
I'd like to crush your head tight in my vice- PAIN!!
And that goes for all you punks in the press
That want to start s*** by printin' lies instead of the things we said
That means you
Andy Secher at Hit Parader
Circus Magazine
Mick Wall at Kerrang
Bob Guccione Jr. at Spin,
What you pissed off cuz your dad gets more p***** than you?
F*** you
Suck my f*****' d***
You be rippin' off the f*****' kids
While they be payin' their hard earned money to read about the bands
They want to know about
Printin' lies startin' controversy
You wanta antagonize me
Antagonize me motherf*****
Get in the ring motherf****
And I'll kick your b****y little a**
PUNK
I don't like you, I just hate you
I gonna kick your a**,
Oh yeah! Ohyeah!
You may not like our integrity yeah
We built a world out of anarchy
Oh yeah!
Get in the ring
Yeah
Yeah this song is dedicated to
All the Guns n'f****' Roses fans
Who stuck with us through all the F***ing s***
And to all those opposed...
Hmm...well
The best is how they use the actuall names of people that they're upset at.

Sad and Angry song (Yes, I know this was written by He-Who-Shall-Not-Be -Named. In my mind, though, it's always Johnny Cash singing. That damned kid who wrote this doesn't deserve to sing his own song. )
I hurt myself today
to see if I still feel
I focus on the pain
the only thing that's real
the needle tears a hole
the old familiar sting
try to kill it all away
but I remember everything
what have I become?
my sweetest friend
everyone I know
goes away in the end
and you could have it all
my empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt
I wear this crown of thorns
upon my liar's chair
full of broken thoughts
I cannot repair
beneath the stains of time
the feelings disappear
you are someone else
I am still right here
what have I become?
my sweetest friend
everyone I know
goes away in the end
and you could have it all
my empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt
if I could start again
a million miles away
I would keep myself
I would find a way

Sad song:
Released in 1989, never particularly liked this song. Then 9/11 happened and all of the sudden everthing changed....this song took on a whole new meaning.
Harry got up
Dressed down in black
Went down to the station
And he never came back
They found his clothing
scattered somewhere down the track
And he won't be down on Wall Street in the morning
He had a home
The love of a girl
But men get lost sometimes
As years unfurl
One day he crossed some line
and he was too much in this world
But I guess it doesn't matter anymore
In a New York minute...
everything can change
In a New York minute...
things can get a little strange
In a New York minute...
everything can change
In a New York minute...
Lying here in the darknessI hear the sirens wailSomebody's going to emergencySomebody's going to jailIf you find somebody to love in this worldyou better hang on tooth and nailThe wolf is always at the door
In a New York minute...
everything can change
In a New York minute...
things can get a little strange
In a New York minute...
everything can change
In a New York minute...
And in these dayswhen darkness falls earlyAnd people rush hometo the ones they loveYou better take a fool's adviceand take care of your ownOne day they're here,
next day they're gone
I pulled my coat around my shouldersAnd took a walk down through the parkThe leaves were falling around meThe groaning city in the gathering darkOn some solitary rocka desperate lover left his mark"Baby, I've changed. Please come back."
What the head makes cloudyThe heart makes very clearThe days were so much brighterIn the time when she was hereBut I know there's somebody somewheremake these dark clouds disappearUntil that day, I have to believeI believe, I believe
In a New York minute...
everything can change
In a New York minute...
things can get a little strange
In a New York minute...
everything can change
In a New York minute...
In a New York minute...
everything can change
In a New York minute...
things can get a little strange
In a New York minute...
everything can change
In a New York minute...

OK, I've been a total torrent downloading whore in recent weeks.
Got a few that are mention here.
Thanks everyone, and keep them coming!
Liked and disliked a few, (which is to be expected) BUT I also downloaded a ton of albums or as the kids like to call CD's and found something I found interesting and have heard others say numerous times.
Except for one or two good songs on an album, the rest are total crap!
I don't have time right now, but I'll post some new sad/angry songs I've found.

Good times for a change.
See, the luck I've had can make a good man turn bad.
So, please please please,
Let me, let me, let me,
Let me get what I want this time.
Haven't had a dream in a long time.
See, the life I've had can make a good man bad.
So, for once in my life
Let me get what I want.
Lord knows it would be the first time.
Lord knows it would be the first time.

A list of sad songs without anything by The Cure? That's gotta be against the law somewhere.
"A Letter To Elise" - The Cure. Beautiful guitar parts on this one.
But for one of those songs that I literally can't hear without crying:
"I'm So Happy I Can't Stop Crying" - Sting.

You know what?
There's another version of that where he just sings a small part of it.
The other lead singer is a country singer but I forget his name.
I like it better than Sting by himself.
But here's a question for everyone.
If a sad song has a happy ending like this one has is it really a sad song?

Does the overall song tug at your heart, enable you to endulge your sadness, or meet whatever criteria a sad song must do for it to be a sad song to you? If so, then it's a sad song, despite the happy ending.
At least, IMNSHO...

No, I had no idea. Interesting, though I doubt I'd like it as much. Generally I'm not a big fan of country music. I'm sure there's good songs and artists in the genre (there has to be) but I've always had trouble getting past the "country idioms" in the music. I do quite like Lyle Lovett though, although when I mention that to the members of the large country-music-loving population where I live I find they tend loose more respect for me than if I said I didn't like any country at all. Don't really understand it, but it's a common reaction.
If a sad song has a happy ending like this one has is it really a sad song?
I agree with Menolly. And I think what makes a song sad is both the song itself, and what the listener brings to it. I'm sure there are numerous songs (probably mostly instrumental) out there where one person would listen to it and feel uplifted by the beauty and a second listener would hear nothing but sadness. And for a sad song with a happy ending, I think if the listener's overwhelming feeling is sadness, then it's still a sad song.

Sad Tool song, eh? I can think of a dozen APC ones, "Sleeping Beauty" easily topping my list (The Nurse Who Saved Me second, though it was written by Failure, and just about every Failure song is music-to-slit-your-wrists-to). But Tool... I'd have to go with either the self-loathing of "Sober" or the personal apocolypse of "Flood." I have the feeling I'm forgetting something, though.

sober would be a good one. i hadn't thought of it as sad, but you are absolutely right...it is. i was thinking something from the new album.... wings for marie/10,000 days. i can't even listen to those songs, it is too personal.
there is a part of jambi that always makes me cry, but it isn't b/c it is sad; it's b/c it makes me think of my sons.
anyway, thanks for playing TooL game with me.
