From what I've read so far, Fred is part of a comedy circuit that includes a 'single guy' routine. Many of the other contestants have acting creds on their myspace pages. And there's apparently some controversy over the statement that none of the girls in the clubs are actors.

no need to be sorry. i don't care if a thread takes varying twists and turns. i think it makes me more like a conversation. anyway, i am dying to ask which one means the most to you, but don't answer if you don't feel comfortable doing so.

Well, I've now watched up to ep 7...

1) It's extremely entertaining

2) Not only does his name sound gay, but 'Mystery' looks gay. (NTTARWT). Do American women really go for guys wearing more eyeliner (guyliner?) than themselves, not to mention stupid hats and rings on every finger?

3) When filming in daylight, they blur out the passers-by's faces, but not the girls the guys hit on? They somehow get away with filming in a nightclub with hidden cameras, and broadcasting the footage without blurring any faces?? Ok...

What got me wondering was the strip club part. Since the girls are private contractors, there's no way the girls would allow themselves to be filmed under those circumstances, and the club couldn't legally give those rights. And leaving with a customer in the middle of your shift? Forget it.

me too. and i am even more embarrassed since i am the one who started this damn thread. anyway, wouldn't it be funny if the seemingly more shallow rock of love turned out to be a more genuine reality show that this one?

and edge, my husband asked me what i thought of mystery. now, i am a very down to earth, raised in the country kind of girl so maybe that influences me, but no, mystery doesn't appeal to me. but maybe big city girls like the sky captain goggles on a top hat look.

syl--excellent point about the exotic dancers. i thought it was odd that one would leave in the middle of her shift, but i thought maybe she was really into brady. yea, i am gullible.

is anyone still going to watch the finale tonight?

OK...I admit I don't watch "reality t.v." And I do not mean to sound critical. But this reminds me of discussions I've taken part in on cooking forums regarding Food Network and their departure from cooking shows that "teach." Or MTV and VH-1, and their departure from music videos.

Do y'all really watch these shows for the "reality" aspect of it? Or for the "entertainment" value? If to be entertained, seriously, what difference does it make if it's all actors, or even all rigged?

Oh, I'll still watch the finale if I get the chance. Regardless of the "reality" of the show, it is still entertaining, which is really what matters. And even if there are some contestants with ulterior motives, several of the points that Mystery makes are still valid and interesting.

So Menolly, I guess it doesn't matter whether the reality shows like this are "real" or not to me, as long as they are entertaining. But I do like to maintin my illusions when I watch them. You know, be able to suspend my disbelief - 'cause that frequently makes them more entertaining. But's that's tough to do with all of the info on the internet. Whatever. I'll still watch.

menolly--i watch shows that are entertaining. the reality part doesn't really matter. (edited to add) and i am glad you made your point. it made me feel better. no flame suit necessary.

one more point...i've been thinking about the blurred faces of everyone except for the girls. that doesn't necessarily mean that it isn't for real. maybe the show's producers got permission after the fact to air those girls on the show. isn't that what the show cops does?

Are we talking about the dancers (remember, I haven't seen the show)? If so, they're "entertainers." I'm sure they jumped at the chance for nationwide exposure.
