He doesn't have to be much younger, only 20 years or so (assuming the Haruchai can have kids at the same age as other humans). For a long-lived people that difference would almost be unnoticeable.

When Linden first talks to Galt in ROTE... the same scene where she notices his halfhand:

He appeared to be less than Stave's age. The characteristic flat cheeks and brown skin of the Haruchai resisted the definition of years. But Galt's lack of scars made him seem untried; therefore young.

Donaldson has obviously put a lot of work into his battle scenes in FR. Even better was the contest between Stave and the three Humbled. This is a marked improvement even over the last book.

Good catch, relayer. Maybe I'm wrong. -- But how did they get to be the Humbled if they are untried? I thought the Humbled earned the position by being the toughest of the bunch excepting the Voice?

WF, you're right. I assumed they're so good that nobody else can really hurt them. It's likely that besides the other Haruchai, none of the Masters have ever had to face anyone powerful enough to challenge them.
