Brian may used to used 5P(I think) coin when playing his solos to get a more thin metallic tone and bite.

John Petrucci of Dream Theater has had some mighty tasty tones. Check out "Kindred Spirits" from the Liquid Tension Experiment stuff he did, or "In The Presence Of Enemies Pt. 1" from the Systematic Chaos album.
And, of course, the godfather of tone: David Gilmour.

As far as Satriani goes I just have to mention the live version of "Echo" from the "Time Machine" album.
My god, that is such an incredible display of musicianship.
All of the other live tracks on the album are verbatim copies of the original studio tracks. But just on this one he stretches out. It is simply magnificent. 'Nuff said.
