Let's see.... Harry and Ron and Hermione all wander into the Land.

"Yes, well, we have a Dark Lord of our own to worry about. He's an absolute nutter. No, sorry, we can't go look for some stick, we have to get back to our own world. No, we don't want to go look for some ward thingy. No, it's cold and we're freezing our arses off here, and we need to be getting back now. Oh, crap, Hermione's mutating. Oh, crap, Ron's being seasick. Oh, crap, I'm a stick now, because that batty blonde woman went on a hugging-spree."

Gratch the Wicked Witch of the Southeast, stood over Linden Avery with her long, spindly arms flailing above her head in a blur of tattered black satin. The pale, wrinkled skin of her emaciated, mottled face was stretched into a wild and fiendish grin. Gratch lauded her triumph over her while Linden lay stretched out upon the grass at her feet and Toto clutched firmly in her arms.

“You are finished. Do you hear me child?” Gratch crowed into the moiling, gray thunderheads above and then slowly curled her hands into tightly clenched fists and brandished them before her, daring Linden to move. “You have caused me no end of pain. I will see you rent limb from limb.” The flying monkeys that surrounded her, jittered and stamped in anticipation. “I wish to hold your still beating heart in my hands so I may squeeze the last of your life’s blood upon the ground and stamp upon it with glee!”

Linden lay still with a slight smirk on her face as she defiantly listened to Gratch’s tirade.

Keep running your mouth moron. Would it kill you to move a few steps to your right you wrinkled cow?

Linden quickly stole a glance at the skies above her, trying to gauge the speed and distance of the object plummeting down toward them. She tensed herself. The timing would have to be perfect and there would be no room for error or a second chance.

“Now my pretty, I will have the pleasure of putting you out of my misery.” Gratch paused to savor the moment. A thin trickle of drool slipped past the corner of her mouth and hung for a moment before it finally dropped to the ground. A bright crackling of crimson power erupted from her clenched fists.

Linden suddenly leapt to her feet and flung herself as far as her legs could propel her. She slammed to the ground a few feet away guarding Toto from the impact by landing awkwardly on her back.

Gratch was able to look up long enough to see massive form of the tanker truck as it plummeted down upon her. She and her servants were instantly crushed into the ground as the fully loaded water tank drove its weight into the earth. The tank instantly ruptured spilling its contents outward in every direction. Gratch’s broken body was instantaneously melted upon contact with the substance she had always feared the most.

Linden lay upon the ground in pain but essentially whole. She released Toto and began to laugh.

I second danlo's request. Forestal
I love the Luke Skywalker idea. Han Solo's sidekick: Foamfollower. "Ow! Foamy! Bring me the hydrospanners."

Grand Admiral Thrawn is from Timothy Zahn's Heir to the Empire (Star Wars) trilogy! The single greatest military mind in Imperial history. Member of the Chiss race.

Yeah, Fist, but I bet Prince Benedict could give Thrawn a run for his money. That'd be an awesome fight. Also, I dunno how experienced Thrawn was with hand-to-ahdn combat, per se.

Likely Thrawn wasn't helpless at hand-to-hand, but I doubt he was fantastic. He had Noghri for that stuff, after all. :)

Can't comment on Benedict, I'm afraid, never having read any of that. It's on my list, after the rest of Neverness and Gates of Fire. But should I put it before or after American Gods and ASOIAF? :) Votes??? LOL

Can't talk about Gaiman. But...I'd recommend reading Amber and ASOIAF right after each other. Doesn't matter what you read first.
