Isn't there another version of Superman II out on dvd? The version that the original director intended it to be? Maybe that one is more serious. I'd buy it, but I hate the idea of wasting any more money on that flick......

Looks like it will happen today although box office mojo won't report it until after the weekend and IM will likely pull in at least another $15 by then.

Fifteen whole dollars? Wow, you certainly think big.

Heh. You funny man.
Doesn't matter. IM has already surged past Incredibles. The weekend is gravy.
Edit - The weekend was great for IM. Makes me think 300 just might be possible.

From now on, you may as well not bother to include the movies below Iron Man, as they're all a bunch of losers, anyway. Next week, hulk comes out. I wonder how good it will be and how much the success of Iron man will influence people to see it. I also wonder if Nick Fury will show up at the end of it......that would be telling indeed.

Well today's number is $277,397,055 domestic which means we only need $22,602,945. Though things are slowing down each week it's accepted that after a month IM is still pulling in higher than expected numbers every day. Unfortunately it could take 2 weeks to reach 300mil and I'm not sure if the film will stay in the theaters that much longer. Just don't know.
HULK will eat into the box office as well but I'm hoping the film does higher than expected business. From what I've seen so far I'm worried.

So, what is a respectable figure for the Hulk? The '03 Hulk made $132 million, and that must have been good nough for Marvel to make another one, but not good enough for them to make a sequel. Yet it's the top grossing superhero flick to not get a sequel (FWIW, I do agree that it needed a reboot). So, does $150 mil make it a winner? I'd like to see it hit $200 mil, but it wont uness it's considerably better than the '03 movie.

It's going to be an uphill battle. The '03 movie sucked, and that's still fresh in everyone's mind. Otherwise, The Hulk is just a fondly remembered 30 year old show that starred the guy from The Courtship of Eddie's Father.

Let's see. IM had a budget of 140mil so I'm guessing Hulk will have a similar budget. I mention that because the first benchmark of a successful film is that it pays for itself domestically. Now the first HULK film had a budget of 137mil and pulled in $132,177,234 domestically. According to these numbers HULK was a failure even though it managed to make an additional 113mil world wide. Having said that I'm guessing that the new HULK film will have to pull between 165 to 170 mil to be considered a success though it will pale in comparison to IMs numbers which will cast a dark shadow on the evaluation of the film overall. If HULK pulls any numbers over 200mil it will be thought of as a wildly successful blockbuster.
Of course no matter what, HULK won't be a disaster. That kind of performance is the domain of films like Catwoman, which admittedly is a DC character. With a budget of 100mil, Catwoman drew a total domestic take of $40,202,379. Even if you factor in the foreign market total of $41,900,000 Catwoman cost it's studio a nice chunk of money, nearly 18mil in the hole. I for one was not surprised since it was clear from the first moment I saw the "rat hat - Mickey Mouse ears" that the creative team behind the film shat upon virtually every aspect of the character and story. I don't see that happening with HULK now that it's in the hands of Marvel at last.
I should add that Marvel isn't bullet proof. Elektra performed only slightly better than Catwoman as it ultimately made a few bucks. With a budget of only 43mil, Elektra only pulled $24,409,722 domestically. When the additional foreign take of $32,271,844 is added, Elektra squeaked out a profit of 13mil. Don't spend it all in one place. OUCH!

Dammit, Menolly, this thread exists because you couldn't stay on-topic in the Iron Man thread. Am I going to have to now start a Bill Bixby thread in TV Shows for your off-topic ravings?

Daily IM update $278,733,064. We're still looking at about a mil a day. If shellhead still has a decent weekend 300mil could be a lock. <crosses fingers>

It's still showing in nearly 3,000 theaters, and it'll probably get a little push from The Hulk over the next week.
It should be a lock.

Now with slightly more than 6mil to go I have to agree. It's all good.
Now the question is where will Iron Man settle in the ALL TIME DOMESTIC BOX OFFICE RACE
Top 25? Does he have enough staying power to beat ID4?
