I enjoyed the Matrix just fine. I was a little disappointed by Reloaded but not by much. I just expected too much. I look forward to seeing Revolutions.

Hello, everyone. The goofy Canuck here again. One sci-fi movie that I feel has been very underappreciated is Steven Spielberg's AI: Artificial Intelligence. Seeing it was one of the most profound experiences I've ever had as a filmgoer. It's a big, bold yet intimate and melancholy essay on humanity that invites repeated viewing.
Er, anyway, I feel A.I. ranks among the ten or so greatest sci-fi films (...that nobody saw, if its dismal box office performance--for a Spielberg movie--was any indication.)
AI seems to be one of those movies that polarizes opinions, so I wonder what the fine denizens of kevinswatch make of it: artistic mess or masterpiece?
(Relax, I'm not trying to hijack this thread. Please feel free to ignore this post and move on...

A.I., I have to admit I had a mixed experience with that film. Stunning visual masterpiece? Yes. Convoluted storytelling (especially the interminably lengthy and obscure last quarter)? In my opinion it left most viewers scratching their heads like the final scenes of 2001. I got the point but just about everyone around me was left asking too many questions for the films direction to be considered a success. imho

I JUST SAW MATRIX REVOLUTIONS AND I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT .. IT WAS BRILLIANT ..
AND IN NO WAY AT ALL .. WAS NEO BUILT UP TO BE SYNONYMOUS TO A CHRIST SAVIOUR FIGURE ..
personally i didnt pick up on any religous connections or analogies at all .. it was awesome!! and i enjoyed it even more than RELOADED!
it was consistent with the ethos of the former 2 of the trilogy ..
and i loved the way Neo defeated Smith .. the self same method Smith used .. he allowed Smith to infect him and once part of him he was able to disable the rogue/corrupted Smith programme/virus ..
it was all brilliant!! excellent .. superlative!! superb!!
i want to see it again ..
I am sad tho' that the status quo however remains with the only variable now being that anyone who wants to leave the Matrix will be disabled from it ..
the accord with the machines .. was ok .. but how will the machines function without bodies to power them? .. for sure there will be those who prefer ignorance to knowledge .. but for those that chose knowledge .. they will clearly lessen the machine power souce.
more conflict must inevitably occur ..

Being a bit older than most here (probably) I still can remember back to the Classics. I have several on LaserDisc even.
I read thru every posting on this thread... cannot believe NO ONE mentions a superb classic of all time - that was done so well, that they have yet to try and do a remake.... gotchya guessin'...?

War of the Worlds is great. Ann Robinson's look and scream as she turns and sees the "eye" about a foot away is priceless. The pause just before she totally loses it, reminds me of Lucy Ricardo.
When Worlds Collide is one of my favorites.
Meteor had its moments but was still a disappointment to me.
I thought I was the only one that liked 2010.
I alway liked Total Recall but it suffered from being laughable at times.
Brainstorm is overshadowed by the spectre of Natalie Wood.
Dune I actually enjoyed watching the Sci Fi channel version better. The original is a classic though.
Enemy Mine is very interesting Sci Fi. It tends to lope along in spots but its very thought provoking in the vein of a Star Trek episode.
Lost in Space I was a fan of the series. I enjoyed the movie but it never felt like I was watching the same story. Maybe thats what they wanted.
Outland is one of my favorite Connery films.
Final Countdown is also one of my favorites but is so frustrating. Let the Nimitz charge into battle and save the day for crying out loud. Would it be all that bad? With todays special effects that movie concept taken to its potential extremes would be breath taking.
