I'm with Cail here. T2 is a flashier remake of Terminator, with many of the set-piece moments being too-clearly inspired by the first film. I like T2, though it suffers horribly in the middle for suddenly losing all its momentum. Cameron is best when he keeps the pace going, and he drops the ball badly in T2.
Personally, I think Cameron is too convinced of his own genius to produce quality work anymore. His attachment with that supposed find of Christs's tomb was as laughable as the archaeological theory was. I think his career would benefit strongly if he spent the next year constantly rewatching Piranha Part Two: The Spawning, and remembering that he is quite capable of making shit movies.

While I appreciate his technical prowess, he needs to get away from the huge budgets and get back to basics. T1 was brought in early and under budget. Sure it looks dated, but it's a helluva movie.
LF- I think you misunderstood what I was saying...People are saying that the IMAX presentation of Avatar was jaw-droppingly good. The film was made to be seen in that medium.

This is the real problem with T2.Montresor wrote:I'm with Cail here. T2 is a flashier remake of Terminator
With Aliens, it worked because it wasn't a remake of the original. In fact, it's not even the same genre (the first being decidedly horror, while the second is an action extravaganza). With T2, it's like he went back and said, "OK, what would I do if I made the first film today, but I have to disguise it so people won't notice..."
Of course, he was just getting into his heavy-handed phase, so it suffers from that as well.

There are some great set-pieces in T2, but the narrative and pacing are all off. 45 minutes go by in the middle of the film with no T1000.....It's all just painful exposition.
With the possible exception of the hospital shootout in Hardboiled, the Tech Noir shootout in T1 is the finest action sequence ever filmed.

Glad you placed the 'IMO', though stating that my opinion is not valid is uncalled for. The story could exist if the aliens weren't human; humans have the capacity to empathise with things remotely not human in shape or behaviour - animals for instance. And science fiction has several books where humans empathise with non-humanoids.jacob Raver, sinTempter wrote: Fair 'nuff. Still, though. This story could not exist if the aliens were not humanoid. Your criticism is your own, but its not really that valid considering that the story cannot be done if they aren't humanoid-the pathos is lost. IMO, of course.![]()

The stories' about an Human/Na'vi hybrid being controlled by a crippled marine who probably discovers the Na'vi and then let's 'his' Na'vi go get his with the others.
If the Na'vi weren't humanoid or they were animals, how would you do the hybrid or avatar concept then?
(sorry for being so aggresive)

Aliens being non-humanoid does not invalidate the idea of hybrids (heck, I disagree with all aliens being hybrids - genetically - given the fact that I doubt they possess a similar 'dna system'). I do recall one book where a human was made to appear very different, but I do not remember its name (yes, I realise it undermines my argument). But saying that 'it cannot be done' does not exist in science fiction.
Regardless, I think the Na'Vi just look crap. And this is coming from someone who thinks the Atevi are one of the best alien species.

I think Hitler best sums up the current reaction to the Avatar Trailer.

Saw the trailer before 2012...I hate making predictions based on trailers, but....
I think it's going to be a visually stunning remake of Ferngully: The Last Rainforest.
