Looks like your boys made through Landwaster?

Just watched the pies knock over west coast. So...

Now we have Pies v Sydney and Hawks v Adelaide.

SdS, your prediction of a Hawks Sydney grand final is looking more probable. My head agrees with you, but I would love to see the Pies get through!

Yep Grand Final next week :)

And AFL is an all-bird affair!

Commiserations to you and your boys Landwaster - looks like it was a close game.

A very close affair tonight and the Hawks get through - so it's Sydney v Hawthorn next week. Hoping for a good game (and less emotional investment now that the pies are out)!

meh they were 6 goals up and took the foot off the accelerator ... Parkdale definitely better team on the day. we did ok though, and we won the 2nds and 3rds Grand Finals :D

Pies out, Sydney simply a very good team. No shame in dipping out to them. I hope they nab the pennant next week. I don't dislike hawthorn, but would prefer swannies get up

Congrats to the Swans, and a bloody exciting grand final!! It could have gone either way in the dying minutes. Adam Goodes is a legend to play 3 quarters with an injury and still have a major influence on the game.

Hey :D

The AFL season is upon us again. Commiserations to Shaun for two agonising losses for North. Congrats to Sleepless One for the Cats' get out of jail performances! And yay for me, the lonely pies supporter and my boys have done well

Congrats to you and Sleepless One indeed!

My heart and my grief glands got a workout this afternoon.
Not a fan of losing to Geelong in close games; brings back the memory of Micky Martyn, on his knees, head in hands, watching Ablett kick Geelong into the '94 Grand Final after Micky had contained him all day. As Zachary Smith would say, "Oh the pain the pain."

But well played Geelong. That's a team with some serious belief. I missed your game unfortunately StevieG. From all accounts, a fine comeback victory?

Yeah, the Pies showed a lot of fight. There are even a few players I didn't recognise who performed well.

The Cats seem to do that a lot - get themselves behind by 40 or so, and claw their way back. They're specialists at it.

The bombers have had a good start - I'm looking forward to their slow decline like last year :D - mainly because my son goes for them, he he, actually it's that one of the people I work with is a huge Bombers fan, and he gives me the sh!ts. Most people don't have a problem bagging the Pies, but many of those can't take the bagging back!

Nothing but respect for the Pies, Stevie G, they're the one team that has consistently pushed Geelong over the past 5-6 years (others like the Saints and Hawks have for a time rivalled Geelong, but couldnt sustain it - unfortunately for Geelong fans, the 2008 GF was the one instance in the past 6 years that Hawthorn was able to get up against the Cats).

Shaun das Schaf, the Kangaroos were a bit unlucky on Sunday no doubt, at half time it was looking like it was going to be a repeat of the shellacking North dealt out to Geelong in round 3 of 2012.

Will be interesting to see how it all unfolds in 2013, I reckon the Pies, Kangaroos and Cats will all be featuring come September.

Commiserations all round for:

- SdS for enduring yet another close loss at the hands of Adelaide. They sure know how to give a lead away!

- me, because the Pies have turned to shit!

- Sleepless One for last week when the Pies hadn't turned to shit yet (yeah, it's only a temporary commiseration for a Cats fan!)

- Landwaster because Fitzroy (that's your team, right?) have only just won their first game against the bottom team...

And that's about it for this particular sport - 4 supporters

What is this AFL of which you speak? It sounds similar to a sport I once followed back when I had a heart in my chest and belief in my head.

StevieG, thank you SO much for bumping this thread . My only consolation is, as you correctly lament, your mob have gone fecal too! ;-)

Sure is an interesting season, on and off the field, though I find myself getting more frustrated with the over technical umpiring and some of the rule changes this year. They seem to have pulled back a bit in the last couple of weeks, which is a good thing as I believe they really we're ruining the game. That's something I experience watching all the games, not just my team, so it's not a 'blame the umpires for constant choking thing'!

P.S I did find the words of one commentator rather amusing... "Don't let North Melbourne walk your dog; they can't hold a lead."

P.S When do you take over the presidency StevieG?

He he! All I need to do is make some casual racial comment and I'd be a shoe in, I expect!

North Melbourne and Essendon are ruining my tipping

And this week they play each other - I have no idea who to tip.

Go Pies :D (I don't expect them to beat Hawthorn, but here's hoping!)

I'm going to continue my solo conversation because I'm mod here and I don't give a crap if people double-post!

I won my tipping comp, and received $240 for my trouble.

Will Fremantle continue there massive run of good form, or can Hawthorn stop the roll? All will be revealed this Saturday!

4 posts in a row!!

Well, we managed to fit an entire AFL season on one page last year - I guess no-one really follows it, he he. I suppose this is a US site after all (and a nerdy fantasy site as well :D ).

Anyway, season kicks off on Friday - I have refrained from any footy tipping this year, I'm just going to enjoy the games.

For Good Or Ill... [Spoilers Obviously]

consider your posting streak broken, StevieG

wait, what, season kicks of on *Friday* - is it a split round ?

I'm not even sure who Geelong play round 1, been absorbed by the cricket this summer, haven't seen any of the Cats NAB cup games (I'm aware they've already copped a few key injuries though  )

Pies should go ok again this year StevieG ?
what's a pass mark from you ?
as an outsider I'd say top 6 finish for Collingwood would be about par, top four you'd be pretty bloody happy.

Most are tipping Hawthorn, Freo and Sydney to take the top 3 spots, after that it's a bit of a raffle!

This is the only forum I have THE power, so I could always delete your post and continue my posting streak  (but that would be lonely - I'm happy to see someone else post!)

Yeah it looks like a split round - pies v freo first up. That'll be a challenge. Cats up against Adelaide. I also haven't followed any pre-season games, so I'm not sure of the form of any of the clubs.

I think the pies are in a bit of a rebuild phase so I'd like to think top 6 would be par but maybe it's more like top 8. Top 6 I'd be happy.

Time will tell - the first few rounds usually give an indication of form.

thank you for allowing my post to stand O Moderate one

yep Pies vs Freo should be a ripper, two very good teams - I think the change of leadership will have at least a small impact for the Pies (with Pendlebury replacing Maxwell as captain) this season ..

as an aside, it sucks a bit to have this ongoing saga about the Essendon doping still hanging over the league - loooong investigation!

Is that Essendon saga STILL going on?? That's a bit ridiculous really.

Go Pies :D Looks like the odds are in Freo's favour, but we'll see how it pans out tonight.
