Chicago Transit Authority, in the cutout bin at Montgomery Wards. The albums had to be the heaviest vinyl of any albums I've ever owned.
I had just gotten a Pioneer combo AM/FM receiver with a built in 8 track and a built in turntable for Xmas and had to get an album to play, but didn't have much cash. I think new albums went for around $4 then.

In 1979, at age 15, I purchased C.W. McCall, Greatest Hits on vinyl. I liked the blending of country music with progressive rock, and enjoyed the blend of humor and sincerity as well.

The Monkees "Headquarters". Monaural! Pretty sure I paid $4 for it.
Soarback, I used to buy singles from the cutout bin at our local variety store for 25 cents apiece.

With the Beatles - about 1964 I suppose. Cost me 13 shillings and 4d (or 8d can't remember). Must have been bought with birthday or Christmas money.

I had some bought for me for birthday presents before that, but I think the first album I ever bought myself was Deepest Purple by Deep Purple on cassette. I still have a copy of it now, only on CD.
I think the first vinyl album I bought was either Replicas by Tubeway Army or Signing Off by UB40 around the time they were released (both in 1979)
