Yes, we still have 4 of our 32 or so still here, but it just ended.

in an odd way meeting Donaldson was more like icing on a very fine cake.

don't get me wrong - i am in awe of how giving and accomodating he is (was)

in fact i told him that i knew of no other author who is so giving to his fans and he told me he knew of no fans who were as giving to an author.

but everyone there was just so awesome. :)

i am just amazed how much fun the entire trip was. loved New Mexico, it is a real treasure.

and many, many , many props to Danlo and his lovely wife for hosting us. :)

my only regrets - not having more time. and not being able to stop by Zom's on the way home. but hopefully i can swing by someday soon...

I know what you are saying, Sarge. In a way, the dinner is the beginning of the end of things. Before, the question is 'when is so and so coming in?' Afterwards, it's 'when are you leaving?'

Sarge, there is a lot to be said for the way you did it. Traveling to and especially from Elohimfest by car has advantages over flying in and out. Traveling by plane does not give you the opportunity to make much of the transition from RL to 'Fest and back to RL. What little transition time you have is either spent going through a multi-step process that keep you safe but is antithetical to the personal philosophy that runs through SRD's writings, or is spent sandwiched into microscopic seating shoulder-to-shoulder and ham-to ham with others.

Yes, we are fortunate to be in the company of one travel companion who is someone who really understands who we are and who is a participant in the adventure, but the others usually have no concept of what we either are about to experience or have just experienced.

Then, there are those (like poor Jenn) whose travels are made even worse by delays and extra bureaucracy. In their case, getting some relief from the brevity of the transition is no blessing, because they just spend more time in the limbo of dealing with people who do not get it.

Car travel with like-minded friends to and from Elohimfest is definitely better! It may take a bit longer, but the journey is the reward.

savor - you have made your points well. what we gave up in speed we made up in a memory filled trip. once julie has the pics on disc i will be postin the (epic) trip.

i hope for tomorrow or friday.

we four need to travel together at some point. :) i would relish that experience.

Sorry I missed it guys. The irony is that up until early May, I was in ABQ almost full time for a contract!
