lorin- I liked the story... yes, the green "mist" is a great description... something I know and love well.
I wonder if your family do one of those major moves that year... Maybe you had an internal sense of timing...
(my internal sense of timing says this spring is coming in wayy too fast this year.)
(sorry the response was so long-in-coming... I hate it when I post a story or something personal like that and nobody says anything... for some reason I just don't imagine that multiple people have read it, smiled, showed recognition in their eyes or what/not... darn internetz.)
Zorm- enjoying the pictures... the extremely-steep roof of that church attests to something about the cold and snow! liking the green that was buried under the snow. Ananda- love the little critters.

Don't know about you fellows, but this is apparently my 7th or April this year.
+ the sea's still iced over.
I'm personally traveling to lecture anyone who complains about cold and whose weather does not fulfill the aforementioned conditions.

How warm is your winter? Perhaps you could import some +10C weather here, and I could ship you the 10cm of surplus snow we got yesterday in return.

The long term average in winter is 12 to 13C, so you're close! Of course, I'm in one of the colder spots in Australia (apparently, although some of the inland areas would be very cold).
Yeah, I'll trade
- just for a day though!

Our average winter maximum in Johannesburg is 16-17°C. Average lows are 4°C.
It's already starting to get cold here, a mere 3 weeks into Autumn...I suspect it will be a cold winter, which I'm really not looking forward to.

Yesterday I got washing out on the line for the first time this year. It is getting warmer. Daffs are out at last. My camellia has really suffered though - I don't think there will be many flowers this year.

Stevie's Oz-magic proved true! Lookie,
the ice has cracked.
They're now beginning to float towards Down Under. I am still saddened that you wouldn't want 6 months of snow.
It did get as far up as +7 yesterday, and last night the thermometer stayed above zero as opposed to Tuesday's -14.
Avatar should be ashamed for calling perfectly good summer weather cold.

Rains and warmer days have come! (the rains, with a fury.)
Also, kiddoes tapping at the back door last week, so I could send out my kid to play with them, even though it was 7pm.
Which is to mention... longer days - YAY. I was really happy after the time change.
And crocuses arrived about a week or two ago, daffodils now. Forsythia is about to really begin.
Also, doves. Love the doves. (+ robins)

Congrats on the cracking ice Frosty!
Some of that ice drift is starting to infiltrate - it's cooling down now. Yesterday was the coldest day so far this year. Here's the stats for April so far:
Mean Temp: Minimum: 9.6, Maximum: 18.6
Lowest Minimum: 5.7, Lowest Maximum: 13.2
Highest Minimum: 14.7, Highest Maximum: 22.9
Rain: 15.8mm

No spring here, per se-- no true winter! The seasons here are: rainy season, dry season, "cold" season, Harmattan, hot season, back to rainy. We are just coming into the rainy season. So it does appear spring-like although it's actually cooling off considerably.
Today it rained so hard during the last period of the day I got tired of yelling to be heard over it and the power went out and it was really dark so I gave up and let the kids have "study hall". (1 or 2 actually study, the rest just mess around but Friday afternoon, last period of the day? who cares.)
