Sorry to hear that, u. I hadn't thought about it that way.

No problem, Murrin! I hadn't thought of it either and I didn't expect even a newly published sci-fi book to cost so much. I'd have happily paid €15-18 for it newly published in whatever format (using vouchers, it'd be a present to myself  ). It just shows me how long it is since I went about buying a freshly published book. (Pity he didn't go down the indie publishing route, then maybe the price would have been more reasonable. He should talk to Lynne Cantwell, she'd put him straight  )

I was quite surprised at the ebook price as well. Again I'd be happy to pay €8-10 for an ebook just out, but €15 for a virtual book that I can't even put on my shelf (I'm just not there yet  ) I'd probably pay that kind of money for an academic text or a reference book, but not for a sci-fi novel that I may never read again.

Guess I should own up and say this is why I missed February's pick. I too had forgotten what new books cost and have acclimatised to buying brand-new old books for $2-3 and brand-new more recent ones for $7-10. (I'm looking at you Book Depository.)

Given what I used to pay for books in this country and given Redshirts looks like something I'd really enjoy, I would normally have joined in, but I've been book buying at Avatar-like levels lately and couldn't justify a more expensive purchase.

Anyway, just thought I'd let you know you weren't alone u. And to everyone else, "Let The Discussion Games begin!"

Alright then. Well stay away from new major releases in future, I guess.

Don't necessarily have to stay away from them Murrin. If there's interest and enough peeps want to participate, go ahead! Us tight arses can skip the odd month :-) (Sorry u, not calling you a tight arse, just me!)

And sometimes new releases are at the library. Redshirts unfortunately wasn't.

The price *I* balked at last week was the newest of Patricia Briggs' books. Sorry, but $13 for an e-book I *know* I'll never re-read is just ridiculous. And here I thought the DoJ settlement would bring prices down. Silly me. :(
