This will be the inspirational movie of the DECADE!! The trailer:

###

(Blind Faith's "Can't Find My Way Home" plays.)

*Sun rising over prison walls. In the shadow of the razor wire, a lone man hoes a row, silhouetted against the chain-link.*

VOICE OVER: Sometimes, inside the prison walls...

*cut to Downs, a large and prematurely grizzled man, cutting vegetables in a stainless-steel kitchen; scooping the cuttings into a white plastic pail.*

V.O. ...is the free-est place of all.

*cut to vegetable peelings flying in slow-mo over the razor wire and landing on the verge of a marsh, where turtles are nosing in the grass for food. Then to Downs, whose fingers twine in the chainlink, a look of wonder on his grizzled face...*

V.O. Follow the journey of one man...

(Music changes to hardcore rap)

*Prison montage: inmates working out, getting in each others' faces, playing cards and guitars...*

V.O. ...as he discovers....

(Rap music swells)

*Downs marches proudly down the center aisle of the prison, holding his bucket of carrot-tops, while arms flail and jab through the bars of the cells on either side; zoom in shot-by-shot to his exultant face walking in slow-motion*

V.O. ....that the roots of freedom....

*pan upward over hundreds of turtles gathering around the vegetables covering the shore of the marsh, toward the prison fence behind which hundreds of inmates rush to view the spectacle, guards in towers point and shout into megaphones*

(Silence)

V.O. ...are within himself.

(Orchestral swell)

*Downs lifting his face and fists to the sky-- pan to the blue sky*

V.O. The Turtle King.

*Title*

V.O. Coming this Summer to a theater near you.

Deer - that was awesome!!! I could picture the whole thing as I read it.

I really needed that today, thank-you.

Shadow - inmates not allowed to toss things over the fence. that would be bad. I'm really not supposed to do it either. but I'm a rebel, man, I live by my own rules. :)

today the gulls got pork roll that needed to thrown away. three turtles braved the annoying critters and got them some yummy swine. and the usual assortment of flying carrots. if I ever work at the trusty camp again - I'm bringing grapes for the turtles.

Jen - my inmates say that on my days off both the gulls and the turtles sit waiting for me. I am the only person who feeds them.

WOW! Not one single nod to my subtle reference...

"Return of the Turtle King."

Perhaps I should have suggested the whole trilogy...

"The Fellowship of the Carrot"
"The Two Weeks"
"Return of the Turtle King"

I think I have lost my humor edge.... :?

No, Jenn, it just flew past me. Nice!

Better this approach than the Sargmarillion...

jenn - sorry I missed it.

and you'll be sorry you missed today Jenn. it was turtle mating season today. as the turtles climbed the bank today they decided they were in the mood for love and paired off and went to business.

As Sarge noted upthread, the facility where he works discourages photography pretty strongly.

That's too bad because baby turtles hatching are an amazingly cool thing to watch.

By now I imagine the turtles are thinking: Oh would you look at that, more carrots. Again. Every damn day it's carrots. What does a turtle have to do to get some celery around here?

well being at South Padre Island this week, I imagine the turtles are wondering where the carrots are.

but I seem to have attracted must of the gulls here. :)

Maybe they've already migrated North for the summer?
