Of Mice and Men was one of the most powerful movie experiences I've ever had. The tragic outcome of the story moved me to tears, man. Maybe it helped that I never read the novel, so the impact of the story was fresh.

The book is stellar, but the Gary Sinise/John Malkovich film is a great adaptation.

Requiem For A Dream, bar none. So depressing I have no real urge to watch it again. It also didn't help that I was drunk at the time and at a particularly low point in life myself. Nothing nearly as extreme as the characters in the movie, thankfully, but not exactly a happy time either.

sad and depressing are two different emotions for me.
Many people found Brazil depressing, but I found it had a happy ending (and I am not talking about the U.S. cut of the movie that was released briefly).

I found Fight Club depressing.

Fiddler On The Roof depressed the hell out of me. At the time, my father was vehemently opposed to my relationship with my boyfriend (and later, first husband) and at times I felt like I was having to make a choice.

I shoulda' listened to Pop!

Not a movie, but a lot of Band of Brothers depressed me. Schindler's List was depressing, too (for obvious reasons).

Titicut Follies - And old documentary filmed at the Bridgewater hosiptal for the criminally insane. Saw it at an underground film festival sophomore year in college. Warning: If you can get a copy of it be prepared...This may be the most disturbing set of images ever put on film.
War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. Tom Browning's 'Freaks', made in 1932. Probably the most disturbing movie ever made; to call it 'depressing' is an understatement.

I was depressed for over a month after watching Saving Private Ryan--it was the very beginning scene with all those young men screaming for their mothers as they were blown to pieces.

is a LIE.

It isn't sweet. It is horrible. Though sometimes necessary.

Have you seen Band of Brothers? Amazing mini-series; I personally thought it way better than Private Ryan (still love that movie, though).

I don't have cable (I don't even have an antennae!)

But I do hope to borrow it from a friend who bought the whole thing on DVD.

I've heard it was excellent.

I think you are missing the point; Wilfred Owen was being ironic. Check the poem.

8) English major here. I know he was being Ironic. I was quoting him. He called it "the old lie."

And how are you, my dear Loremaster? It seems an age since last I saw you...

No need to be sorry--it was my fault for assuming that everyone would know that I was quoting Owens.

We English majors are a pretty presumptuous bunch.

Most depressing movie

Post by taraswizard »

Looking for Mr. Goodbar. Staring Diane Keaton and Richard Gere. Story of a young women teacher of deaf students and her search for love in all the wrong places. It would surprise me if anyone at the Watch has even heard of this movie.
