Kulp's resume includes (or perhaps fails to include) one of my favorite references to Glen Cook's The Black Company.
Spoiler
There actually is a mage, I think in the 4th black company novel, I don't think it's one of the really powerful ones, who weaves a spell related to boatcraft/boat repair or something like that. Maybe the Ruse warren includes spells for craft as well as the water itself.
My favorite romance...I think is disclosed in MoI?
Spoiler
Rake and Silanah. I don't really know any otherkin that I'm aware of in real life, and I'm not sure I've even talked to any on the internet, but they have this kind of weirdly silly reputation in my mind. So I always thought it was funny that Rake likes getting it on in his dragon form.

Black Company is in my top 10 of series. You can feel the resemblance in the writing by Erikson. A long way to go to finish this series then I think I will revisit the Black Company.

Ya. Also, I don' really remember what I dread of the read empire series, but I believe there's a character in there who's somewhat Kruppe-like.

Hmmm, sounds like I should look for it. :D Seen it referenced here before but never read (or even seen) any of them.

If you're lucky, you can find an omnibus containing the first few books.

When they do show up, the Claw drop like flies in this series IMO.

Memories of Ice is probably the most straightforward (at least in the Book of the Fallen, don't know about Malanzan overall) in terms of the bad guys being bad and the good guys being good, IMO.

LOL there's foreshadowing in this book for something in House of Chains. (so spoilers for book #4)
Spoiler
I can't remember when, but at some point someone is talking about head wounds. And someone (paraphrased) says "that kind of injury winds up making a man make wedding proposals to his lapdog." Teblor dogs aren't exactly lapdogs, but I remember one of Bairoth Gild or Delum Thord gets a head wound and then spends his time among the dogs instead of the humans.

So I have a question to which I do not have a particularly confident answer.

At the beginning of DG...
Spoiler
Hood acolyte covered in flies approaches Heboric, says "something to show you", then the flies all scatter and no acolyte is to be seen within the swarm (disappearing act). Does anyone feel this moment is foreshadowing to any other particular moment in the series? Right now, the best answer I can come up with is something that happens towards the end of House of Chains, so I won't give the answer explicitly for now...but it also relates IMO to the bargain Hood made in GotM to take someone close to Paran in place of Paran. This is just something to try and remember for later in the series, maybe, as we don't have a thread past MoI at this time for this set of rereading (???).
