Another old but intriguing thread. I'm going to say that with Berek's greater spirit and Kevin's greater knowledge of lore, they turn out to be pretty evenly matched.

This actually brings up something that has bothered me ever since I first read the Covenant books - why did Donaldson pick a name like 'Kevin'? It kind of makes me not want to take him seriously.
Why when all the other names are original(ish), did he choose the name Kevin?
So...Berek, as I can't help but think of Rik Mayall's Kevin Turvey when I hear the name Kevin...

Kevin's not that bad a choice, when you consider the Ultimate Bad Guy is named Lord Foul.

Remember, anyone, when Tyson knocked out Spinks in a minute and half in the biggest paying fight of all time [till that point]?
That's a long night till last call plus an after-hours party compared to what Kevin would do to Berek.
It's like thinking the first Superbowl winning team could do anything but curl up and beg for mercy against the last winning team.

Berek. He has great power and plenty of experience fighting... and he didn't blow up the world when things were not going his way.
Kevin may have the "knowledge", but what good would that be without experience to back it up? To re-write Vraith's analogy, it'd be like the first Super Bowl team playing a team of obsessive football fans who know all the plays and statistics but have never gone beyond playing catch with a football in a parking lot during a tail-gate party.

Well, since you've brought in a boxing analogy I'l bring in another one.
Berek is Muhammad Ali, the old champ, not the hardest hitter of all time but smart and skillful, and with the benefit of experience.
Kevin is George Foreman, the hardest hitting champion of all time who knocks anyone who stands up to him off their pins.
I'd back Berek to win with a rope-a-dope strategy. And remember that Berek would have the Theomach in his corner.

On another matter that's been raised, I've always thought that "Lord Foul and the Ravers" sounds like the sort of name you'd give a punk rock band. I'd have samadhi Sheol on lead vocals, Lord Foul on guitar, turiya Herem on bass and moksha Jehannum on drums.
