Someone helped me once,
and saved me from the void that sought to engulf me.
I see others, threatened by that same void.
How can I ever turn away,
from even one?
This hurts me,
but the pain is good.
It reminds me why I live,
for others. If I did not do all in my power,
for all that I can,
the unhappy soul would be my own.
If I do all I can,
I will never be unloved.
It's true, only some will I meet on my path,
but it is I who choose that path, and I who must walk it,
alone.
Gifts given are only gifts if accepted, I accept
all that I can,
all the pain, the joy, the sorrow, the fear,
I make it mine, and it becomes me.
If I ignore my what if's,
and the consequences of each possibility,
each decision, then I cause pain.
I know this, it has happened, again
and again and again and again.
The guilt is enough to make me pause,
make me ask myself
"why this path, why this way?"
Consider my options, consider love.
The journey is inevitable,
beginning at birth, ending in death.
My path is the path of love, and by walking it,
I become it. My story becomes a link in
the chain of love that stretches back to the beginning of humanity,
for the story of humanity is the history of love.
