This is what I have been saying! Now my man Hughie has been nominated for an Emmy for Best Actor in a Drama! Not bad, I would say, for a man that someone passed off as an old comedian.

From CNN tonight:

The nominees for best actor in a drama are Hank Azaria ("Huff"), Hugh Laurie ("House"), Ian McShane ("Deadwood"), James Spader ("Boston Legal") and Kiefer Sutherland ("24").

I watched House for the 1st time tonight--and yes he has the gnarled brow and voice, I could envision him as TC. 8) However by the time they make the TCTC movie(s) Bale will be just right and Laurie will be too old.

I gotta say, I watched the entire House season, and Hugh Laurie is just about a perfect match to my mind's eye view of TC. He's got that long, craggie face that fits in so well with the TC persona, and it helps that he's always unshaven. Also, his dead, cynical act on the show really fits in well to the "unbeliever" role. I only doubt that he'd be up to such a monumental task..I'm not familiar enough with his body of work to know.

You know, I never thought of Hugh Laurie as a possible TC, but thinking about it, I can't think of a more perfect actor.

And I also never knew he was British. Being an American, all I've seen him in is House, which I think he is stellar in, and it kinda blows me away that he's British. I guess he's just that good at not only his accent but his performance.

I have to say, this idea is really gaining steam for me. I really enjoy "House" and Laurie has the look and the cynicism down pat. I'd give him a chance - he'd probably be cheaper than anyone else we've come up with.

Forget everyone else. We just need to get SRD to be Covenant in the movie.

Right you are! He even talks with the same tone I've always envisioned TC as having. 8)

Very British...

So what? Mel Gibson is Very Australian or whatever it is he is, and so is the Gladiator dude (it is very late here, and I cannot think of names tonight) but they both make you forget it when they need to. Hugh laurie does the same thing. If you never saw him before HOUSE, you would never know he was anything but New Jersey.

I think a number of actors are doing incredible accents these days. Minnie Driver in Grosse Pointe Blank made me completely forget she was British.

Naomi Watts does good 'mercan. So does Cate Blanchett.

I couldn't comment on whether Americans like Gwyneth Paltrow are doing decent Brit accents, someone British will have to weigh in.

I'm not British, but Hugh is to much "good for nothing, toffee crappy butler weed" for me. He will always be the IQ 40 Prince with the enormous trousers. I could not accept a TC that made me giggle every time he opened his mouth. I am sure that other fans of Blackadder would feel the same.

Even though I know his dramatic talents from Peter's Friends, he's still not my pick.

Didn't I say that? I will say it again. I believe it is impossible to watch an episode or two of House and NOT coming away feeling like he is TC. Gotta be him. And I say at 46, he's not too old.
