Just bought this for my son for Christmas. He is level 20 and joined a guild called Fire Rangers that his friend and family all created. My youngest plays it too, but also likes WOW. (RE: WOW:I hate that I pay about $13 a month and we can only have one player on at a time for WOW.) With GW I could play too if I wanted (and had time!) or we could get the whole family on at the same time. This is the way it should be.

Its now the Faction ( the sequel to Guild Wars ) free preview weekend.
There is a invite feature which, i think, allows someone to try it without owning GW. Each person gets three invites so if anyone wants one jsut ask.

I'm playing the preview, a little. It's a bit odd being dropped right in the middle of it, so although I wanted to try the new professions out I think they may be a little too unfamiliar, so I'm going to change to one I already know. First impressions: These maps are big.

A great new feature i plaed today was the 12 versus 12 maps.

It is very chaotic, but excellent fun.

They've upped the max team members in PvP? Cool.

Just to add: I love the Dark Flame build. Elementalist/Assassin - works great. Switch in a ranged attack or two as well as the close up ones, and it'd be perfect.

Only for this area.

Create a pvp character and talk to the Allaince coordinater in your Gild hall.

If you are not in a guild, then you have to fight your way to the area, but im not sure where it is.

It is great fun, and more random than the current pvp in Guild wars.

Warmark you really have to try this while you have the chance: Elementalist/Assassin, put all your points in Fire, Energy Storage, and Shadow Arts. Give him Bed of Coals, Burning Speed, and Aura of Displacement (best of just creating a PvP Dark Flame than adding the extra skills). Bloody brilliant - use Burning speed to set yourself on fire, Aura of Displacement to Shadow Step into a group of enemies, cast Bed of Coals, then cancel the Aura. The result: When Burning Speed ends it sets all of the enemies on fire, Bed of Coals sets area of effect damage, and the Aura takes you back to a safe distance.
I like this Shadow Stepping stuff. Definately using an E/A when I get Factions.

The screen turned red, i couldnt walk straight and you say random things without typing them.

It was pretty funny, seeing you character confessing love to another one.
Heh, the WoW drinking is a bit like that. Your screen goes blurry and after a while it says 'You feel light as a feather' at which point you can jump off high places and float gently to the ground, like the feather fall spell.

I saved up all the booze I'd ever found then got absolutely smashed outside the bank in Ironforge.

I may give Guild Wars a try, but common sense tells me that the last thing my strained schedule needs is another MMO. Then again it's free, so it might be a good place to hide when the pressures of Guild management.

It's been said that Guild Wars is more Cooperative than Massively Multiplayer. WoW is definately a great game - probably a better game, but Guild wars is fun enough, and the PvP is brilliant. Takes a bit of practice and skill, since you're limited to 8 skills and can't raise all your attributes to max, so you have to specialise.

Of course, you also have a choice of which game to buy - apparently you don't have to own the original to play Factions, and it's fairly stand-alone - plus, the PvP is all crossover, players from both campaigns.

And as you say, it's free - once you buy it you can play it or not, the account will always be there for you to use.

Aww, how sweet of you! Since it wasn't on the first page, and I have the attention span of a 5 year old with add on speed I kinda gave up...

Anyway, hi to yall who play! I haven't played recently, and I won't be able to again until I get a new moniter (my old one had a good run. The thing has gotta be at least 10 years old...) But I'll get one soon and let yall know.

I have a Mesmer/Elementalist (I'll be damned if I remember the level) Named Cole Nightallis, and a warrior/mesmer (same with the level) named Waddley Hasselhoff. They're both unguilded since my ex and I went our seperate ways. They also haven't really been played since then.

You know what? I really like the name Waddley Hasselhoff. It's > than Not Zen. Hmmm.... I only have a handful of posts, perhaps I should reregister...

Perhaps I shall.... but then all people will have to know me by will by my llama-riding banana! It will destroy everything I've worked for in my last... um... 12 posts!!

EDIT: (cause I hate posting after myself)
Ok, so now I'm really getting the urge to play GW, and I can't get my wireless connection to work. It says I'm connected, but it can't find the internet.

...

How the hell do you lose the internet? It's not tiny. Everyone and their mom is on it. You'd think you could just look outside and see it floating on by (in my mind, the internet floats.) But no. My computer can't do it.

I'm going to the gym. Causing myself physical pain will help me get over this.

(Oh, in case you're wondering, cause I know you are, I'm using my roommates computer to connect here. So there.)

Do you have to register the MAC address of your network card with your ISP? Sometimes you have to to get access and it's a huge pain.

I've heard that Blizzard are working on Diablo 3 at the moment, it will be free to play and will compete directly with Guild Wars. Discuss.
