That sounds great Murrin!

I have the feeling my work will be quick scenes and snap shots, or possibly loosely linked short stories rather than a "novel".

But the value in this is making the time to do it -- and in having fun.

I'll be home in about four hours, after feeding and spoiling the cats I will be able to get started in about five hours.

I've written the first 600 words, and now it's time to sleep. I have a tutorial tomorrow at 9:15 and labs from 10:15 til five.

I've been working on a novel for a while now. I'll be writing a different, much easier, novel for this project. But, I've been struggling with the opening sentence for quite some time. I wrote a rough version of the prologue, but I hated the opening line. I found, like many writers, I was trying to write an opening sentence. It came out forced and obvious. I cut the first paragraph, and now the opening works.

I recommend we exchange such insights often. It will be a hard month for all of us. We will need all the help we can get.

ya'll are a little bit ahead of me!! it's still halloween here in SF. i had already begun a thing i wanted to work on and am just using this little event to get myself to go ahead and crank on it.

just informed the mate that i would be involved in this thing and got a resounding "ah you aren't gonna do it." what more impetus do i need!! ha!

It's about 2330 here on Halloween night -- I should be sitting down to begin my work in about an hour and a half!

i have a title and the genesis of the plot. and shall start at some point today.

It has begun. A page and a half, but I am going to take a break and get something healthy to eat to counteract all of the candy I got at work tonight.

I have no idea where in the world I am going with this, but I am enjoying myself.

the first line:

i was thinking of starting with...

"it was a dark and stormy night"

So, day one, and I'm just about to start. How's everyone doing?

Got about 700 words into my story last night, woke up with a million ideas swirling around in my head about it! Am about to start typing again. I'm tired today but exhilirated.

And just for Fist -- there is already one nakie woman scene.

I'm about to start, once I've finished up here. I'll let you know.

Stopped mid paragraph for food. Latest stats: 1575 words completed. I don't think I'm up to doing this many words every day, yet. I'll see how it goes tonight and tomorrow.

About 2200 so far.

1686 - daily target passed. I'm not stopping entirely for the day, just slowing down.

I think I have about 1300 words after both last night and this afternoon, so you guys are both far outstripping me in output.

If anyone wants to look at my profile there, or add me as their writing buddy, or send me messages, I am duchess of malfi there as well.

Different time zones, duchess - took me until 10pm to get past the target, local time.
I've uploaded a short excerpt on my WriMo profile - one of the better paragraphs of my first day's work (and yes, I'm Murrin there too).

only 1050 words last night. not a great start and i HATE it. will begin again tonight and see how i can work it to make it something i would read!! (got interrupted by my husband cutting the heck out of his hand with an exacto knife!! blood everywhere!! my concentration went to hell.)

Good grief! Yeah, I can see how your concentration could be destroyed by that! I'm sure things will go better for you tonight! I am doing a bit better than I thought -- when I knocked off for the night, I had nearly 2000 words in a bit over the first 24 hours. I'm sure I can't keep up that pace, though. But I'm writing again, and that's what matters.
