And I thought the Last Chronicles pushed things too far... you've just shoved them off a cliff

Three answers:
SRD won't do it.

I'm very glad...I hate prequels.

IIRC, SRD doesn't mind fan fiction at all, as long as it is not done for money.

Someone should suggest this to SRD. He has ruled out prequel novels or further sequels to the Chronicles after The Last Dark, but I don't think he has ever definitively ruled out future short stories set in The Land.

I think, if there is a prequel, it cannot be about Covenant - he's been done to death.

Anyone out there read Le Guin's 'Tales from Earthsea'?
It's the 5th book in a series of 6, and it's broken up into five or six short stories about the history and minor characters of her world, all progressing in time until the final story in that book, 'Dragonfly', which leads directly into 'the Other Wind'.

I thought it was a great read.. And something that could be applied here. The time span of the Land is huge, and there are so many stories in there, so many events which have hapenned, and we still don't kknow what's going to happen in the Last Dark either..

It could center on Berek's Translation to the Land and his journey to becoming The Lord Fatherer

LOL Rob

Never fear, the Moderator's here! Since these seem to go together, and since LZ seemed to intend to continue any existing discussion, I have merged topics!

What about SRD chooses his eight favourite fan-fic pieces, compiles them into one volume with a Foreward written by him and he gets to keep the proceeds of the sales. The fan fic writers get to be immortalised as part of TCTC?

I'm glad you boys got my joke :P

TBH I always thought that of all the Characters in the Land's history, it would be HL Kevin who was translated from the real world.. They say he's loric's son, though.. Adopted son?? Anyways..

What, because of his name?

Kevin sounds like he comes from the "real world" and Hile sounds like he came from the Land.

Yes. Because of his name. It does seem out of place with names like Loric, Triock, Variol, Thuler, Pietten, Berek, Mhorham..
Hoever there have been a couple of people with real-world sounding names, Lena and Llaura.
And anyway it seems like a plausible story with Kevin.. He's come to the Land - possibly summoned by the despiser - andfalls in love with the place, and is quite adept at using earthpower, but Fangthane betrays him and causes him to despair and sacrifice the beauty of the world he had come to love..

That's interesting but there is no evidence whatsoever that Kevin isn't from the Land. The name thing is pretty weak sauce.

Indeed, and SRD seems to like the unexpected.

Ah, but, for Berek we have a hint that he came from Covenenat's world, the Night Club singer that called Covennant Berek ;)

I guess this must already have been discussed elsewhere, but I have never made this connection between Berek and the 'real' world before

Probably been discussed, but, if so, it was probably some years ago it was discussed.

I'm mostly just joking, but, there was that scene (and the singer did deny she called him Berek, if I remember right, so, it could ahve been Covenant's imagination)
