Not to mention the fact that Wesley Crusher sucked anyway.

Ahhh the Cybermen. Anyone who is interested, watch Earthshock, Tomb of the Cybermen, Revenge of the Cybermen and Invasion (avoid Silver Nemesis and Attack of the Cybermen). The Five Doctors is not bad, it's just a shame the Cybermen get their pants handed back to them - in other words, they get massacred.

Roland of Gilead wrote:Sorus, I'll have to seek out that Gerrold anecdotal story. Sounds funny, although perhaps not to Ellison. Isn't he extremely sensitive about his height? (or lack thereof?) I also once read an article by Gerrold, entitled, "In Defense of Didactics." Which he proceeded to do, mainly using Heinlein as his shining example.

There is a lot of didactics in Gerrold's works, to be sure, which I think is what High Lord Tolkien is referring to. I thought A Rage for Revenge overdid this aspect, but A Season for Slaughter got back on the right track, with more action to drive the story.

But the time factor here between books is just absurd. I'm not sure if I will continue the series or not.
Think this is it, though I remember it as being longer. The first time I read it, it struck me as being funnier than it actually is, mainly because I had recently met Harlan Ellison. I still think he's a great writer, but he should probably avoid meeting his fans if he wants to keep any of them. 8O

Haha, pretty cool Sorus, thanks. :)

There's only one thing that comes to mind for me when I think of Harlan Ellison though...I have no mouth and I must scream. Awesome story.

The Primes are pretty good because they are so alien. Also, in my mind they look like the Protoss Dragoon.

I like the ships in the Julian May books. They even kind of impress like the pernese do dragons.

Most of Julian May's aliens are superb! Let me see now...I give you:

The Krondaku - Giant interstellar squid with godlike psycho-interrogative powers and a soft spot for single malt scotch

The Gi - 8 ft hermaphrodite sentient birds who literally die of pleasure at operas

The Simbiari - officious, bureaucratic green men & women who ooze verdant slime and photosynthesize

Not to take anything away from my Poltroyan & Lylmik friends too, of course...

I'd have to call it a tie between Donaldson's Amnion and Niven/Pournelle's "Moties".

The Amnion freaked me out, and the Moties are just so fascinating. Especially "Crazy Eddie".
