Kay1,
Go For It!! I agree. My interest has always been to hear/read tales that fill in the story line, but there has been some push back on that.
I've always been a "history" fan myself, but those "in-between" times are great too.
Anyway, I don't think that people were opposed to it, just that some would prefer not to be
limited to it. If you're open to both, you're increasing the offering.

Avatar, I guess you are right, and the rules I have suggested are just that (suggestions, I mean) , and I am not opposed to any changes or additions or edits.
I just have a freaking story in my head I need to write and cant get it out until I write it, but lack sufficient motivation to start. Which is the whole reason I started this post.

So write it.

Things tend to happen slow here, so you may as well get started. And if the contest never quite makes it off the ground, well, there's a Hall of Gifts forum where people will be glad to read it anyway. some might even comment.

Good on you.
See? Motivation is everywhere. You just have to look.

I've also started writing again. I currently have four paragraphs of Kevin looking at the scenery in the beginning (and more to come), so I think this thing will indeed be long enough even if I do have a tendency for being concise. After all, I have a hundred years worth of plot to write about. (My old opening was drastically different but had to be scrapped as I found out it contradicted the books in a way that could not be fixed. That was a lot of writing wasted.)
I really hope this competition works out, as I think I really need the motivation. I have had a hard time writing long stories in even a vaguely reasonable time, and my Kevin story shows the signs of being my longest yet, at least in the English language.

I am really glad you are positive about the possibility of this competition happening, frankly I wasn't sure. I hope to read a lot of entries.
I suggested this contest so that I would get the motivation to write what is in my head about Korik's mission and his attempt on corruption, and needed the motivation.
(No, I wasn't trying to sell wayfriend a watch, especially Kevin's Watch

)
Competition or no, I am looking forward to reading your efforts, and also to your (and anyone else's) appraisal of mine.
edited for spelling and content.

Yay! a fan-fic contest. i have been thinking of a story. and i can't quite decide on the coming of the bloodguard and their vow. Or the story of Lord Foul's rise in the council. I am thinking of integrating both, being that the page limit is what it is.

Something that occurred to me recently was the idea of placing yourself in Covenant's shoes. A fan fic that centers on a popular scenario found in the Chrons but written from YOUR point of view as you assume the role previously occupied by TC. How would you react? What would you say? If you were honest, what choices would you make given the same circumstances? Imagine yourself crouching down in a trench surrounded by conflict at the battle of Soaring Woodhelven. Would you jump up and try to help or continue to cower, frightened out of your mind? How would you respond to the pressure of being labeled a mythic hero reborn? I'm sure many things would be different. Not being a leper or suffering the personal pain Covenant was wrestling with when he found himself in the Land, I certainly couldn't imagine hurting Lena and therefore many of the events that took place for TC simply wouldn't apply to me but something would have happened to be sure. That is the question that would be answered by an exploration of how things would play out if the Creator had chosen YOU instead. My name is Thomas Cummins so the initials would be the same. I am an amateur writer so that’s similar. I do wear a white gold wedding ring so I have that going for me but beyond that I have almost nothing in common with the other TC. I'll give this idea a shot and see what I come up with.

If needed, I'll be a judge. I generally loathe fan-fic (so I have little desire to write it), though I have seen a few that weren't bad.

Nothing I'm sure. Us mods are, as you may have noticed, not particularly strict.
Probably just one of the many occasional glitches we suffer from.

You so sexy and non strict. I'll try again as soon as I can summon the energy.
In the meantime, here's a link to my Illustrated Life of Caer Caveral.

let me know if this is some weird violation.
*sends with a prayer*
ETA3billion: Bah
Edit the three-billion-and-first: I took down the LJ post with the art on it, so unfortunately the link's dead. I really must figure out how to get art into the Hall of Gifts, or do a macro, or something.

Does this mean you don't want to collaborate?
Okay, I don't know what happened to my original post, but in it I laid out my plans and schemes for an illustrated life of Caer-Caveral, based on a medieval manuscript called
The Little Flowers of Saint Francis. I was hoping to find somebody who could help me with the graphics side of it, since I don't have many fonts and pretty much suck at placing text anyway.
But it's all for naught because my heart is broken! No, no -- I kid. It would take forever, though, because my workload is going to be insane for a while. And then there's the whole part about being the only person on earth who wuvz poor Caer-Caveral. *g*
Oh, well. I like fanfic. Thought I'd give it a shot.

I like the concept!
Will you develop it further?
Are you re-purposing existing artwork or doing your own!?
[will be tough to find eyeless forestal artwork!]
