Thanks all!

I was thinking of calling to talk to the rabbi after camp winds up next week (Beorn comes home tomorrow!), but remembered that after session B they still have Camp Yofi and Family camp sessions. Then I bet Rabbi Sykes is going to take a well deserved vacation towards the end of August.

I don't want to wait all the way until the applications for next year are sent out to speak with Rabbi Sykes, which is around October, so I'll probably start attempting to reach the Rabbi the week after Labor Day.

Thank you for your efforts on behalf on Beorn.

Input before I send them off please?
Well, now I'm all choked up. The letters are lovely. I don't think you need to do a thing to them.

I'm so glad for your son. And YAY for the young camp counselor.

::bumping:::

I again come forward to ask if anyone knows of any organizations that I can contact for help in sending Beorn to camp this year. I have been much more organized and had better results this year from my efforts, but we're still running short and are now running out of time.

We are planning on sending Beorn to Camp Ramah Darom again this year. We have been fortunate in obtaining scholarship assistance from Ramah Darom itself, B'nai Israel (our shul), and Hillel at the University of Florida. Unfortunatley, the tuition for camp increased by a few hundred dollars to $3850.00 for the month this year, and even with all that we still owe a balance of about $950.00.

As those who read this thread last year know, not only does Beorn benefit Judaically from attending Ramah Darom, but it appears to have a beneficial focusing effect on him mentally and emotionally as well.

I am very grateful for the help from Watchers last year, and also for their generousity in sending me to ElohimFest this year. But, because of ElohimFest, I am hesitant to ask for help in sending Beorn to camp again this year.

The camp is asking for the tuition to be paid off by June 6th, unless I contact them to make other arrngements. I intend to do so, but my personal goal is to be able to pay the tuition off by the start date of camp on July 11th.

So, I need to contact possible organizations as soon as possible. I followed up on all of the suggestions last year, and have concentrated on the ones mentioned above as those are the ones who helped. If anyone knows of other organizations that haven't been mentioned that I can try, I'm all ears.

Thanks all!

I know this sounds weird in context, but try Lutheran Social Services. Just google them and try the live person closest to you. Start there. :)

They have grants and things and they are mad philanthropic.

Yes, yes, yes!! Lubavitch came through.

I knew they would, they have every year to the tune of $100. But this year they decided to match our shul's donation, so it's another $400 gone. Only $550 to go. Yay!!

Lutheran Social Services wants me to come fill in an application. Now to hunt down all my tax information again..

Thanks jwaneeta!

Well, given that not all of us are going to Elohimfest, perhaps some of us can help, like was done last year?

:::blushing:::

Xar, I am not going to pretend I am not interested in receiving help, but as I posted earlier, I don't want to wear out the good will of Watchers either. So, I am torn in how to respond.

My heart tells me to tread softly, and stay on everyone's good side as best I can. My head tells me to ask for help wherever I can.

At this point, I'll step back and say no more regarding that unless others speak up, or someone decides to PM me.

I am extremely grateful for the tremendous generosity shown to Beorn and me already by the Watchers between last year's help, and ElohimFest.

jwaneeta, LSS turned us down. But, it's because the deadline to pay is so near. I'll keep them in mind for next year, and will see if they will help once the application is filled out.

Well, poop on them. Let's say I put in $50 to repair the honor of the doggone eternally embarrassing fellow Christians, then -- I just found out I'm getting a bit more for a book I'm doing. :) What's you're Paypal?

I'll also look around for swift grants -- if such things exist -- in my town. :) I'll be back.

And mine is fubar -- hate Paypal, rather! Why don't you just PM me with your address then? :) So much simpler. And frankly it would also help me to know your state, for what I'm trying to scout.

I have a call in about the larger sitch, so as soon as I get any info (I'm hope there's an inside track on this sort of stuff) I'll be posting you.

Thank you again.

If any of it does pay off, and the grants are annual awards, I would be happy to take on the job of applying for them next year in a more timely manner if you would send me the application information.

I truly do appreciate your efforts, even should nothing come of it.
