Indeed. I should have guessed that might confuse, and I should equally have guessed that Avatar would understand.
I suppose it following shortly after "in a nutshell" might have exacerbated the bafflement.

"I've got a bleeding ladder in my tights."
Of course, because of our exposure to US media, we on this side of the pond tend to have less of a comprehension issue when it comes to Americanisms.
It just means a run in your hose, right? I didn't need to Google that.
And yes, Cov. Following "nut" after "nutshell" really threw me for a loop. I mean...I
figured you didn't mean it that way, but then I couldn't figure out what you were trying to say, either.

If you think "Pommyisms" give you WTF moments, you should try "Ockerisms"...
We'd be "chucking a spaz/tantie", "chucking a hissy fit", "going troppo" or "doin' our 'nanas"...

Feeling pretty bummed about all the crap thats been happening in this part of the world.
Cyclone Yasi is going to wreak havoc on northern queensland in about 6 hours time which comes on top of an earlier cyclone last week and
devastating flooding in the southern parts of the state which wiped a town literally off the map and flooded the 3rd biggest city in Australia, claiming the lives of at least 22 people with over a dozen still missing and unaccounted for. Some of the lost were kids
Qld is certainly the place NOT to be right now.
Just to give you an idea of how big this storm is.

Yeah, I'm following Cyclone Yasi closely too. Qld has copped it big time:

300km/hr winds (185 miles/hr).

Crazy weather everywhere... And the Queenslanders certainly didn't need a cyclone on top of the flooding. Hoping everyone's okay there.
And I'm also hoping all of our Watchers in the vast middle of the US are weathering this horrible snow and ice storm. It's gone north of DC -- all we've had is a massive rainstorm overnight, instead of the freezing rain they originally talked about. I'm grateful that I won't be slipping and sliding to the bus stop today. And they're saying the temps might even hit 50 today.

Not unheard of for February, but still pretty darned weird.
Oh -- happy Imbolc, everybody!

*Quick look at Google* Well! It's cloudy over here, and everywhere else seems to be crap, so it looks like winter's almost over... indeed, a happy Imbolc to all!

Happy Seollal! (That's what they call it here in Korea.

) I've eaten so many things I couldn't identify in the last few hours...

Greetings from balmy New Mexico! 1 degree here now, supposed to get up to a blistering 10 today with some little snowstorm rolling in soon-it's the winds that are getting us not the snow, but this is nothing compared to the rest of the country-there's over an inch of ice covering Indiana with 40+ mph winds predicted for the middle of the country that could knock down trees and power lines leaving people without power for days. Hope Dukka and other Watchers are safe. Man that cyclone sounds crazy!
Roads are clear here but the schools are closed and everything's on a 2 hour delay. Pagan festival for the coming of Spring?! What the...I think it's Groundhog Day too...forget him seeing his shadow-ol' Phil's kicking back with a hot toddy and the paper and he ain't even coming out of that hole today!

It's hard to tell how much snow fell here last night other than a lot. The wind drifted about 3 1/2 feet of snow in front of my porch door, and there's about an 8 foot drift in front of the garage that I haven't gotten around to getting at yet. I decided against getting a snow blower this year. To top it off, the township plow clipped my mailbox off the post yesterday before the storm really started.
However, I put a beef roast in the slow cooker and have some 312 beer in the fridge. Life is good.

Just talked to my family, and they had 21.5 inches of snow (according to the official numbers), with drifts over 5 feet (even higher against the garage door). I'm really glad I'm not there right now, as I'd be the one shoveling (my brother looked really tired on skype--he'd only shoveled half of the driveway). My sister says some people are stranded at her workplace (picnsave), because they'd worked 3rd shift and can't get out until a private plowing company digs them out--and the plowing company won't go there until the streets are cleared. At least they won't starve.
Good luck to all of you Stateside who are dealing with the blizzard/winter weather, and to those of you in/near Queensland with the cyclone/flooding. And to anyone else who may be experiencing disasters, natural or otherwise.

I experienced the same in 2003, actually, 3 feet with up to 6 feet drifts. That was ugly, and I was worried the entire time with the lights flickering that we'd lose power and heat. I worked up in the foothills at the time, and saw pictures of the building I worked at - the snow was up to the roof. It was unreal.

The spots on the national news where that poor female reporter has been camped on that 5 story mountain of removed snow in Boston is enough to give me the willies...I guess it all eventually melts into the harbor, right?

The snow was about waist deep today. It was fun shoveling out the car.

It's one of those times.
The times when you discover that your friends aren't really your friends. That the people you have always counted on can't be counted on after all. That the few people who have earned your love don't want it and don't love you.
I hate those times. They come out of nowhere. I feel unequal to every challenge and deserted by everyone I value.
This mopey mood will have worn off by tomorrow, I'm sure. But right now I'm about as miserable as I have ever been.

I am sure you already know, but I'll say it anyway.
Approach any of us to talk with if you wish. I know I, for one, would be more than willing to listen.

Ex-ka-YOOZ me? And what the hell are *we*, chopped liver?
Owlie, sounds like you're having a good time! Happy Seolla to you!
These snowfall totals and temperature readings are giving me flashbacks to last winter in DC.

Cut it out, you guys!
