And now for something completely different - how about Tim Robbins as Thomas Cov'nant? (Unless of course someone else has already suggested him - this is one DAAAAAAANG long subject / response to subject.)

If I were the director, I'd let Robbins read for the part.

Anybody mention Gary Sinise(sp?)
Played the lead in The Stand - thought he played a good part as the troubled, hearing things in his head, self-conflicted lead....
Just a thought...

I don't know that I'd like Sinise for Covenant, but I bet he'd make a great Hile Troy.

Good Call Ur-bane.
Here are some thoughts:
Mhoram: Jude Law (His range and emototive capacity to say nothing of his features) Perhaps Kyle McGlauchlin?

Ewan McGregor for Mhoram?

There are several actors I think could pull off Covenant.
Matt Damon
Gary Oldman
Jude Law
Tobey Maguire
Tom Hanks

Perhaps....either he or Jude Law would be alright. I reently saw Cold Mtn., and thought that Law had a really great temperment for the role of Mhoram.

IMHO...
I like Matt Damon, but I don't see him as Covenant. Same for Jude Law. TC never struck me as a handsome man, and both are too good looking.
Gary Oldman is a definite yes, but I'd rather see Gary COLEman play TC than Tobey Maguire or Tom Hanks.
No offense intended, just my humble opinion stated brashly, in the tradition of SRD.

Here's what IMDB.pro says about Gary Oldman. The first part fits TC perfectly.
(His) characters are usually borderline psychotics. Also known for playing a wide variety of roles that often requires a variety of different accents.

Tom Hanks? TOM HANKS? But he has only ever played two characters in his whole career; Forrest Gump, and Tom Hanks. Tom Hanks the gay lawyer with AIDS. Tom Hanks the kid in an adults body. Tom Hanks the astronaut. Tom Hanks stuck on a desert island. Tom Hanks the cop chasing Leonardo Di Caprio around the US.
*shudder*

I could picture Tom Hanks as TC, not one of my first choices though.
Ewan McGregor as Mhoram? Ewan can do anything.

Now. this suggestion might seem a little strange, but I can picture Paul Bettany (Chaucer from
A Knight's Tale) as Covenant.
He has a certain ability to be intense, and subdued. Plus, put a scruffy beard and moustache on him, grow out his hair a bit, and he kind of resembles my mental image of Covenant.

Not bad Urbane.
How about Ron Perlman as Saltheart Foamfollower?

He's certainly better than Matthew McGrory from Big Fish.
But I think Perlman has too much of an edge to him, and Foamfollower is about as gentle of a giant as can be imagined. I'm not sure Perlman could pull that off.

Again I say, Keith Hamilton Cobb (Andromeda) for Foamfollower. Anybody seen him play the lead in Eyes Beyond Seeing? He ran the emotional gamut there.

Ever see his work in Beauty and the Beast? He played a gentle "beast" with the capacity for great violence.

I just joined and am playing catch-up. I always thought Jim Caviezel's wounded, haunted eyes would be great for TC. Plus he can be gaunt. I've actually thought about trying to animate TC.

Are you guys insane?! Russel Crowe is the obvious choice for Thomas Covenant.
think about it... he has a gruf unkempt appearance and voice AND has anger management problems!!!!!

What's his face... Pheonix, maybe? He might have to be a bit older though.
