First post ever in this thread, I think.

So I'm sitting here on the computer, getting ready to submit my experiences on Google's new browser in the Loresraat when I hear a noise from the closet thing up here where my AC/heat pump unit is.

You know when you watch those movies and you're just yelling (hopefully not in the theatre) "Don't open it!" Well, I opened it.

Bam! Face full of bat! Thing goes flying out of there like a bat out of... well, out of a very large closet. After a minor freakout (I didn't scream or cry like a little girl, but I can't quite claim to have completely maintained my dignity), I put on a hat and leather vest and venture back into the computer room to open a window (luckily, there's no screen in one of the windows). Bat doesn't buy it.

So I had to go to Wal-mart at midnight to buy a net. $6.66. Lady asked me if I was going fishing. I briefly toyed with a Fear and Loathing reference, but decided it wasn't the time or place.

Came back to the house, hoping der fliedermaus had found the window. No dice. But it was pretty easy to catch the guy, and after a couple shakes, he flapped off into the night.

Tomorrow I have to really get in there and figure out how the bastard got in, hopefully not finding a family of them. If I'm really unlucky, I have to get up into the attic. I've stuck my head up there exactly once, when we bought the house.

Once upon a time, when I was young and foolish, I lived on the top floor of an old house in Huntington, WV. The entry into the attic crawlspace was in the bedroom ceiling; if there ever had been a cover over it, it wasn't there when I moved in.

One night, I awoke to a commotion by the window. Yup, a bat had flown down through the open crawlspace entryway and was trying desperately to get out through the window screen. Of *course* I screamed, what did you think? Then I chased it out of the bedroom and slammed the door, and tried to go back to sleep.

The denouement is hazy in my recollection; I remember finding dirty bat-footprints around the kitchen sink the next morning, but I don't recall ever shooing the little feller out. Maybe he found his way back up into the crawlspace while I was at work the next day. In any case, I shoved a couch cushion into the crawlspace hole. Since it wasn't my house, I considered the problem solved....

Foamy found a bat lurking in her bath towel in the bathroom at college once. Another woman in her house caught the bat and let it out.
