Hi Everyone,

I thought I'd better write a quick note to say gday - I joined over a year ago, but this is my 1st post. I might even build the courage to contribute to a discussion or 2 down the track!

I certainly find the forum an interesting read - as well as the GI.

I don't want to write too large an opening post, but briefly, I discovered Covenant 1 & 2 around the time White Gold Wielder was released as so had the pleasure of reading the first 6 books in succession. I had never previously read a series of books with such intensity of emotion - amazing! Then I discovered the Gap series, which IMO takes intensity to a new level...

I wanted to take a minute (maybe even a few minutes) to say hello and to tell you what has brought me to this site. I have been Covenant fixated for many many years. I read the first book (showing my age here) back in the 70’s. The trilogies literally changed, and perhaps saved my life. It taught me about loss, salvation and hope in a time when there was none of that for me. Over the years I have turned to those books during difficult times and again found hope in them.

I have moved forward with my life and become somewhat successful (I guess). I run a homeless shelter in NYC and have focused most of my life in social service. But now at this time in my life I am looking back and questioning my decisions. To get to the crux of my visit here…….As I always have, I turned to the Trilogies for comfort but I find it is different now. As I am rereading (actually relistening ) the thing that consistently goes through my mind is that I wish I was there. I wish there was a world where there was such honor and goodness, where we are given the opportunity to be MORE, more than we are. What strikes me now is I will never have that opportunity, I will never know ………………………………

I try to explain to my few close friends these feelings and they all think I am out of my mind. So here I am, where I hope I will find others who can, if not feel as I do, at least understand the depth of these feelings. Please bare with me, I am not as crazy as I appear on paper, just looking for a sympathetic ear.
Eloquent entrance, lorin! I haven't been this moved by a debut post at KW in a long time. *bows in Haruchai fashion*

Your avatar is magnificent as well! 8)

Your words remind me again why the Chronicles matter. These books constitute a "bible" in my life, too. They shaped my world view more strongly than any other literary work.

Thanks AjK,

Can anyone point me to a thread that discusses when they first discovered SRD? I've had a quick look but I'm sure a veteran of the Watch can find it for me a bit quicker. Thanks in advance!

Yes, I've read both Runes and Fatal Revenant. I haven't read any short stories or the 4th "The Man Who.." yet tho.

Well, if you read through this thread (the welcome one) almost everyone mentions his/her first encounter with SRD. If you would like to, I imagine you could create a new topic in General SRD discussion located at the following url:

Oh, yeah thanks for that! It's always the obvious that I miss - similar to the stories from Mr Donaldson...

G'day fellow Donaldson fans. What a grouse site this looks!
I'm currently reading FATAL REVENANT - halfway thru - and it's looking more like the Linden Avery chronicles, to me. lol
I enjoyed more this second reading of the two earlier trilogies than my first reading of them. It's like my senses were more attuned to and prepared for the tortuous logic of The Land and its
denizens. And I'm still not sure about the Haruchai. lol
I'm looking forward to reading thru the contributed thoughts of other Donaldson readers.
And is it true, there are plans afoot for a movie(s)???
If so, then bring it on! yaayyyy!
Hugh Laurie WOULD be the perfect man for the part, huh? His surly and sardonic character as Dr. House are like a training ground for his role as Covenant. SRD probably has some one else in mind, but.
One thing I'd love to see, though - if the movies or series is ever made - at the end of WHITE GOLD WIELDER, where Linden Avery vanquishes the Sun-Bane and restores the Land to some semblance of its former magnificence .... the background music should be SPIRAL ARCHITECT
by Black Sabbath! I know Classical scores are trendy, but this has that symphonic edge to it, with power chords and nigh on to perfect lyrics for that particular scene.
I envision and hear it all now ..... Tea Leone is Linden Avery, embiggened by her apotheosis, and yet ghostly, as she brandishes her new-made staff to restore the wounded Land, to the strains of Sab's most regal tune. Sighhhhhh ..........

Crikey! I hope I've posted this in the correct manner. I'm not used to this form of comm. Tell me if I've duffed it up, wonchas?!!
