Cambo -- Good for you!

Fist -- yeesh, I *hate* those things. Haven't had one in awhile, but they're awful. The antibiotic ought to be working by now, but yeah, ibuprofen is the ticket for the pain. And a humidifier will help, too. Did they give you a decongestant? That ought to help with the pressure, too, at least some. Why am I blanking on the decongestant name? (I tell ya, this getting old thing sucks...) Sudafed, that's it! Little red pills. And don't take the ones off the shelf -- they're pretty much useless. Go to the pharmacy counter and get the ones you have to sign for.

Murrin -- ask at the hotel front desk for restaurant suggestions. Or, yeah, nightclub suggestions. Where's our Canadian contingent, anyhow? drew, buddy, are you out there? Wasn't there a thread somewhere that mentioned Tim Burton's and donuts? If you're gonna eat crap food, at least eat local crap food. ;)

Iolanthe -- we've got Vicks Vaporub, but not lemsip or Karvol.

Iolanthe, I had Vicks on my upper lip all night. I couldn't smell it at all. Never heard of Karvol.

I've been taking 3 tbls (45 ml) of Nyquil, which has acetaminophen, every night. Ibuprofen in the morning, and other times when needed. I have vicodin from when I had a tooth taken out. I was probably gonna try that tonight, but I think this thing has finally turned! An hour after posting, things just seemed to loosen up. I'm now exhausted, since I haven't slept in a few days, but the rest only feels like a nasty cold. Still nine days of the new antibiotic, though. Maybe nyquil will actually put me to sleep this time.

I take zyrtec every day, but I guess that's not enough to keep this away. If I get this unbelievably horrible thing again, I'm gonna get something a bit more serious to take every day.

Thanks all! :D

Well, I'm not surprised you couldn't sleep if you put Vicks on your upper lip! My mum used to do that to me and it was cold and horrible. Best on the chest :)

Glad you are feeling better.

In all seriousness, this has traumatized me!! I had no idea we could feel THIS bad in this area. I sure do love getting old. New ailments around every freakin' corner to look forward to.

My feet are killing me. Figuratively. So today I:
Wandered around town meandering my way towards the lake. Went to the CN Tower, took a lot of pictures. Wandered around the harbourfront area then detoured back to the train station for my Niagara tickets. Wandered back to the harbourfront, had a burger and fries on a patio by the lake. Wandered around the harbourfront again while trying to decide if I should go to the islands. Took a boat out to the islands, walked around, took pictures, walked a mile or two off in one direction before deciding it didn't lead anywhere and I needed to turn back. Boat back to the city, more walking around and working my way back to the hotel.

Between 9am and 5pm I think I've spent a total of around one hour not walking or standing.

I'm gonna try this out. A couple people on FB recommended it, too. I'd hack off a finger if it would stop this from happening to me again.

Been on jury duty all week and my back is killing me. Yes, figuratively. NOT used to spending so much time sitting. Not looking forward to the mess I'm going to come back to at work. Worried they are going to 'forget' to pay me, which will leave me unable to pay rent. And still need a vacation. This isn't what I meant when I said I needed a week off.

Sorus, you actually picked a great week for jury duty. We've had surprise incognito visits from corporate mucky mucks and that resulted in a half day of Manny running around the store.

I'm tired and wish it was already friday. I did manage to have some fun with customers though. I'll blog about it.

Fist, glad you are feeling better. I get sinus infections every few years from pollen and dust allergies. They REALLY suck. The worst one I had was from fixing/replacing ceiling tiles and I must have breathed in some fiberglass dust because it started with a series of bloody noses and then WHAM my sinuses filled up with blood and snot and pus. There is nothing more fun than blowing an egg yolk sized lump of pussy snot interlaced with clotted blood chunks out of your nose. It's even more unpleasant when you do sleep and you wake with the taste of that combo in your mouth from it leaking down the back of your throat in your sleep. Unfortunately that time was also how I discovered I was allergic to sulfa drugs. I usually use a saline rinse and towel over my head breathing steam to self treat which usually works great but that time it didn't. I went to the urgent clinic and they prescribed sulfa drugs which take a bit of time to build in your system before they work. They also prescribed me some sleeping pills so I took the meds and woke up in the wee hours of the morning sobbing, running a fever of 104 and covered from head to toe in an angry burning solid and lumpy red rash. My roomie took one look at me and rushed me to the emergency room where they shot me full of stuff, prescribed new stuff and sent me back home. I spent the next few days crying constantly and trying not to scratch at my swollen angry skin while still suffering the sinus agony. I was down for the count for 8 days for that experience. I've got some minor allergies happening right now and if they get even the slightest bit worse I'll start doing the saline rinses as preventative maintenance.
Now if I could just find a way to wear live bees as jewelry all the time.....

Sorus, I've been taking days off for nothing restful either. I need a vacation too. Let's get away for a few days! Anywhere is better than here…

I wouldn't say I picked it, they picked me. And they picked me because most of the room didn't speak sufficient English. Or at least, they'd call people up, they'd say "No English, no English!" and they'd get dismissed. My skill at other languages begins and ends at being able to quote Star Trek in German - which, in retrospect, probably would have gotten me dismissed - but too late now.

Nah, bars here serve 20oz glasses, which is a 2 1/2 cups, or 1.25 pints. Venti is the natural "quanta" of both coffee and beer :D

Haha! Reminds me of the 30 Rock episode where Liz Lemon dresses up as Princess Leia to avoid jury duty.... and still gets picked. So maybe your multilingual Star Trek performance wouldn't have helped you.

Clearly you don't drink a good italian double esspreso in your neck of the woods Rigel - but yes for beer I might concede that this measure (on carefully selected occasions and NEVER in England) might 'hit the spot'.

I'm ecstatic to say my symptoms started lessening yesterday afternoon. I actually slept last night, total of at least six hours. Feeling even better today. Still very tired, and not about to try doing anything, but definitely on the road to recovery. I'll try my apnea mask tonight.

While I will try anything to get rid of this if it comes back, I doubt that will be first on my list! Actually, it doesn't sound as bad as it could have been, considering your warnings. Thanks, though. Seriously. All cures will be considered.

 One time, one of my kids ate a clove of raw garlic, more or less on a dare. She burped garlic fumes for about a week. It was kind of entertaining....

Ba damuwa, Fist. (No problem)

Well, I had a flight picked out, and even a ride to the airport with two missionary nurses who are going home for a break, and the person who had only to click on a link and purchase the ticket failed to do so and now that flight is booked solid. My poor husband was livid, as he spent hours researching tickets and sent the link so all she had to do was literally click on a link and hit "purchase", but the woman responsible just didn't do it for two days. After the first day the price went up $200 and Bob e-mailed her about that. By the end of the second day she was like "oops, sorry, no tix left, I'll work on it tomorrow." :x  :trout: :hithead: :mgun:

I seriously thought that if I can't get there in time I'm going to call this woman and give her a phone number and say, here, you call my 80-year old mother and tell her why I can't be there.

I worked frantically entering report card grades and all kinds of other running around so I could leave with things in order. Thank God the student teacher was already in place and they'll just pay her to be the "real" teacher for the last two weeks of school, and she's done splendidly so no worries there. Just sadness as there always is in saying goodbye to 16 little people I've spent lots and lots of time with for the last several months. Monday I am going to bring cupcakes and have a hug party at the end of the day. That will help. |G We'll sing their favorite songs; stuff like King of the Jungle, Dance Like David, Wade in the Water, Bottle of Ketchup Song, Baby Shark, Ooples and Boonoonoos.

I know I'm giving Jenn a run for her money here with "my" blather but there is a lot going on and a lot of emotions, good and not so good. I am rather ready for a break from a country where (as a Nigerian man said to me last night) everything is broken.

Roads- broken. Government- broken. Power grid- broken. Economy- broken. Credit system- broken. Criminal justice- broken. Education- broken. Social welfare- broken. Utilities- broken. Health care- broken. Planning and zoning- broken. Environment- broken... you get the idea.

So we'll see what happens. Either I make it to the funeral, or not. It's in God;s hands, not mine.

One more time, cuz it feels so good: :trout:
