I have given him some thought as well. Though I question his capacity for truly bitter rage. Good thought though.

think about it... he has a gruf unkempt appearance and voice AND has anger management problems!!!!!
And has turned down the part already . . . otherwise he'd be perfect.

casting covenant & co.

It's been stated here several times, but I believe it bears repeating... in LFB, Thomas Covenant is a fairly young man, maybe 30 or so. You could cast an actor somewhat older than that, but not as old as many that have been suggested here.
When I first read the Chronicles (roughly 20 years ago), I pictured Michael Douglas as Covenant. I thought he could capture the unlikeable aspects of TC's character. Now, of course, Douglas is far too old.
I like several of the younger actors suggested here, in the following order: Paul Bettany (excellent, wish I'd thought of it), Edward Norton (great actor), Christian Bale, or Guy Pearce.
One other possible TC that I present for your consideration: Damian Lewis (see HBO's Band of Brothers, or Dreamcatcher).
20 years ago, I could really see Kris Kristofferson as Lord Mhoram, but I suppose he's getting on up in years now.
And for Saltheart Foamfollower... then or now, I recommend Tom Selleck. He really has the friendly, gentle aspect for SHFF.
It may seem like an odd choice at first, but think about it... it'll grow on ya.
Afterthought: Eric Bana as Bannor.
Let me know what you think.

Welcome to the Watch, TexNickUSN! Er, Tex?
Your casting choices are interesting. I'm not familiar with Damian Lewis--which can be a good thing. It's been argued TC should be played by a relatively unknown actor, not a big name star.
It would be both weird and wonderful to see Kristofferson play Mhoram. I can see how he could emphasize the quiet, strong authority of Mhoram.
Tom Selleck as Foamfollower? Well, I don't know...you're asking me to make a big mental leap there.

said it before, Guy Pearce would be an excellent TC, though maybe we getting swayed by his natural gauntness....
I like Gary Oldman though, got an edge to him and would play that well, imagine him ranting round "Hell & blood".. etc etc.
Anthony Hopkins as Foul, with a bit of make up, he'd be the dog's...
Martin Clarke Duncan (??) as SHFF , the chap who played Kingpin in Daredevil, Joe Coffey in the Green Mile. Just because he's massive.
William Hurt as Mhoram
Jennifer Garner (Electra in Daredevil, not that I have a thing about this film or anything) as Elena - just how I see her.
Rachael Hurd Wood as Lena (Wendy from Peter Pan)
Kathy Bates as Atiaran
Brian Blessed as Trell,
Linda Hamilton as Linden Avery, though she might be getting on a bit.
Likelihood is though that if it got to film a lot of the actors would be unknowns; take LOTR and Star Wars as examples. Some names, mostly not though. Leaves cash for the effects, and production etc.
Would we really want them filmed though? Heck of a challenge especially as there's now another 4 to come - a task too far for any producer? Especially for a series of books that are not exactly mainstream.

If he was younger Charleton Heston would have made a bitchin' TC

How's this lineup for the 1st Chronicles of Thomas Covenant:
Gary Oldman...............................Thomas Covenant
Laurence Fishburne...............................Bannor of the Bloodguard
Michael Keaton...............................Lord Mhoram
David Morse...............................Saltheart Foamfollower
Dennis Hopper...............................Hile Troy
Cate Blanchett...............................High Lord Elena
John Turturro...............................Samadhi Raver
Russell Crowe...............................Trell Gravelingas
Sigourney Weaver...............................Atiaran Trell-mate
Diane Lane...............................Joan
Janeane Garofalo...............................The Healer
Mel Gibson...............................Warhaft Quaan
To be in an SRD flick, you need to be an actor with some edge.

I'm all for Cate Blanchett as Elena.
Oh, did I already say that?

I agree, Heston would have been a formidable Thomas Covenant.
elmer wrote:Russell Crowe...............................Trell Gravelingas

Considering the astronomical salaries Gibson and Crowe command, having them both in one movie might bankrupt the entire production. Besides, Gibson would probably prefer to direct the movie.
Pretty intriguing cast at any rate, elmer. I can picture Keaton as a young Mhoram kicking Cavewight butt. I can't imagine Gibson being relegated to a supporting character like Quaan, though. And Dennis Hopper as Hile Troy? Sorry, that's almost as weird in my mind as the Selleck-Foamfollower idea. Also, if Garofalo is in the movie, that can mean only one thing: Ben Stiller pops in for a cameo!
(Okay, this TC movie is really turning bizarre now...)

Ben Stiller as Nature Boy, the unfettered who helps TC and Atiaran in Andelain!

I always thought SHFF would be played well by Ron Perlman. Diesel as Turyia? Wow.

Anyone have an objection to John Hurt as Lord Mhoram??? I'm quite confused myself as to the age group of anyone who would play Lord Mhoram, but if an slightly older one was on the cards John Hurt would get my approval.

Yeah, I agree. Eric Bana would be a good choice for Bannor.

I have thought for a while that Kiefer Southerland would make a firts-class TC. What thinkest thou?
Might help if I could actually SPELL!

Kiefer Sutherland? Keefer? Quepher? Sudderland? IMDB to the rescue!...
Wow! His real name is:
Kiefer William Frederick Dempsey George Rufus Sutherland
Now that would be a mouthful to yell if he were in trouble!
Kiefer William Frederick Dempsey George Rufus Sutherland, get over here NOW! And don't make me call you twice!

I'd have no problems with Kiefer as TC.
