I can fix that for you: the Summerlands have no gatekeeper.

My job here is done.

I got my first flame review, btw -- it's on Shelfari and it's three words long: "Far-fetched religious fantasy." They still gave it two stars, tho. I am so proud!

The rest have been predominantly 4 stars, with a couple of 5s, and one 3 that's really a 3.5 (she's a book blogger who gave it 3.5 on her site but rounded down when she posted the review at Amazon). So I'm very happy. I knew, going in, that the book wouldn't be for everyone....

Erm, anyway. Life is boring otherwise. The apartment building management is painting the hallways -- they're keeping the walls white, but dumping the battleship gray (whoo hoodey!) for a light blue on the residents' doors and a deep blue on the common area doors (elevators, stairway doors, etc.) and all of the doors' trim. They finished my door while I was in Roanoke -- looks very nice.

Monday is a holiday. Looks like I'm getting together with knitting friends tomorrow night and Saturday. Then I've got book club Sunday. And Magickmaker has talked me into picking her up at the airport very late Monday night, so I guess I'll be catching a nap earlier in the day. The things we do for our kids...

Sorus and I stood side by side at the front of our store today and watched inarguable proof that the zombie apocalypse is already upon us. There was a pack of perhaps 50-60 zombies that went by in search of brains. Austin saw them too. He said they were shuffling down Market St. when he was on his way to Del Taco for lunch. It was an exciting moment. I turned to Sorus as we stood at the doors watching and said, "I TOLD you the zombie apocalypse had already started!" So everyone be careful.

Other than that my day was pretty uneventful.

What Wayfriend said.

So...it's the Friday before a holiday weekend, and a lot of people took the day off. Including my two secretarial teammates. But *not* all of their attorneys. So I've kind of been running ragged this morning. Looking forward to 6pm, for sure...

I was reading an S. King short story today called Big Driver (should have been called Big Drivel) and he mentioned a bakery truck called the Zombie Bakers.

Today was slow and long. I did get super silly with some customers which was fun and I made friends with a black toy poodle named Fozzie Bear. I also got to renew my old friendship with the Sarge in charge the last time Snatchy McTabletgrabber was hitting us all those months ago. I'll blog about it.

Now I am looking forward to my weekend and hopefully the weather will be nice. Not sure how crazy the city is going to get though because we have two major events going on this weekend. Carnival in the mission district and the 75th anniversary of Golden Gate Park. Definitely going to be a madhouse tomorrow in this neighborhood.

Also, Sal was spouting some human propaganda nonsense in the typical human denial fashion to explain away the zombies, some media coverup claiming they were promoting a zynga facebook game but Sorus and I know the zombies are real. Buying in to that sort of governmental/corporate cover up is what gets the ignorant trusting masses killed first. They refuse to believe in the reality of zombies until the zombie is actually chewing on their skull and they smell the rotting flesh and dusty grave cerements decorating the desiccated hands that hold them down and they realize that it's just too late.

Same here in the midlands. I'm waiting for the shadows to lengthen so I can get out and do some weeding.

I think I might have figured out that I'm hypoglycemic and get headaches every day and feel like crap because of that. Which would be good because I can (to some extent) control that. It would be nice to feel like myself most of the time, not just for an hour after eating food. :)

I feel good today! Just came out of hot season in Nigeria so this is not too bad, although the humidity in the NE is killer today. Going to my nephew's grad party in a short while. Should be fun.

Got up late, knitted for awhile, ran some errands, went to dinner with a friend, knitted some more. Went online and searched for more yarn in a particular color. This yarn seems to be sold out everywhere -- I'm now kicking myself for not buying both skeins when I saw it in Roanoke last weekend. I found one online retailer who apparently still has some and ordered it -- hoping they don't come back to me and say they're out, too. :cross: Here's a picture of the yarn -- I'm making a shawl out of it:

And here's the shape of the finished shawl -- mine will be a different color, of course:

Been feeling great. 27, very fit and my beard rocks. Going for a mountain man look.

Singing in the church choir as well. Went on a date yesterday. Very pretty girl, said she'd message me and if she does I will be developing that little seedling later.

Also finished my latest short story, Flash. A very tense action piece about a serial killer who blows the walls off people's houses and leaves the victim impaled through the wall by a sword with the word "FLASH" painted in blood above their heads. He manages to attract military attention when he attacks a public place and things escalate.

I'm being taken out today. That may not sound unusual, but it is. C & I rarely go anywhere of our own choosing these days; he is usually taking me to meetings, or to give talks.

I'm not sure where exactly we're going, perhaps out to Coningsby or anyway in that direction, and dinner in a pub somewhere.

Last Friday I felt a little jaded, and I told a lie. I left the Archives at 12.30 and went over to the Library to do my usual Friday afternoon newspaper thing. But as I was walking I decided I was too fed up. So I told the librarian that I had a headache coming on and I didn't think that 2 hours trawling through tiny writing would help. I did feel sorry for the poor caretaker who has to bring the papers (three years in one volume, hard covers about 3 foot high and 2 foot wide) from upstairs on a trolley.

Anyway, I shall enjoy today, and will hopefully be refreshed and ready to go next week.

Hope you all have a good weekend too. It's been very quiet on here the last day or so! :)

I went to a church I had never heard of today, since I'm visiting my elderly mom and she doesn't go. It was lovely. I felt like the songs and message were chosen personally for me, and the folks were friendly but did not fuss over me, either (which church ppl sometimes do when they find out I'm a missionary). It was a spiritual drink of living water and just what I needed. :)[/quote]

Earlier today I had an odd moment of realisation of just how easy I have it in life, when I was just about to finish placing orders for about £140 of CDs* and not even bat an eyelid at the price. I've actually spent more than that, because I also ordered two books and decided to back Amanda Palmer's kickstarter up to the CD level**.

A month or so ago I bought DVD box sets amounting to a little over £100. I just came back from a holiday that cost me in the ballpark of £1000 all together.

I never worry about money. Not for the last few years. That's something I think I need to appreciate more, since even my own family can't say the same.

I still need to move out of here and join the real world, which will totally reverse the situation.

______

*I've been thinking for a while about filling in my CD collection, going through bands I have 1-2 albums by and getting some of the others I hadn't bought. I also wound up finding out about some new ones I'd missed. I don't buy new music all that often, really.

**Never listened to her stuff before this kickstarter started up, but after all the fuss I started looking around and decided I'd give the new album a go, and what better way than going for the limited edition that the low price of $25 on kickstarter will get me?

I can send you a copy after proofreading. It's essentially done. PM me your e-mail?

In other news: my beard was complimented by an attractive (but sadly married!) woman at church today. It apparently works.

Just been attacked by a huge beetle - at least an inch long - that flew through the open window. I swatted it then had to prise it off a tote bag that it landed on. Picked it up with a tissue and threw it back out of the window.

One of these I think - July beetle. The weather's so warm that it thinks it's July already!
