Hope the Pogues went well, Cag. (and your wife's birthday. It was my wife's birthday yesterday too, but no Pogues concert... :( )

The Pogues was a great show. There were just a few things that annoyed me that were unrelated to the Pogues performance. Mainly the idiots that attended the concert. But I was right up front, and got a wink and a smile from Darryl Hunt, when I shouted his name at him. I was by him and Jem Finer and Spider Stacey with a small barrier between me and the stage. Thankfully, Phillip Chevron stepped up to my side of the stage to sing what has probably been my favorite Pogues song for years, Thousands Are Sailing. Unfortunately, he looked like a corpse. Andrew Rankin looked especially old and seemed to be gasping for air a bit. Might have been the altitude. And Shane looked like an old lesbian in a black and white sweater that looked like his mum knitted for him. Strangely enough, Terry Woods, who always seemed like the old guy of the group, looked younger and better preserved than many of them. I doubted it was him for a while until he sang Young Ned Of The Hill.

I'm glad you started your post with the 'great show' bit, Cag! I'd love to see them in concert. Only seen them once, at a festival about twenty years ago.

The Ash gig last night was fantastic - one of the best I've been to! Started off in a bit of a panic, when we arrived and weren't on the guest list. But it turns out that because we were sorted out weeks ago, we had tickets waiting for us rather than listed on the 'on the night' handwritten list. And I am so so glad. They were out of this world, and if anyone gets a chance to see them, jump at it!

I've been thinking about why, today, and I've decided it's because they are just superb song-writers! Most successful bands have a couple of anthemic songs that are everyone's favourites, and the rest are passable, album fillers. Ash's 'best of' (Intergalactic Sonic 7's) has 19 anthems on it, and that was released about ten years ago! Even their newer songs that I hadn't heard before, have definite potential to be my favourite songs in ten years time.

Go youtube them!

I am so freaking excited.
Beorn's first full-fledged-all-out-with-amazing-light-show concert.
TSO in Orlando tonight!

I must remember to bring ear plugs for Paul and Beorn to dampen the sound.
Me, I'll take full throttle please.

Here are some videos to get hyped up!

Have fun Menolly! A little bit different to my next concert! Going to see The Horrors tomorrow night. Lots of distorted guitars a la My Bloody Valentine with a large dash of goth added. Should be interesting!

Three Decades
Who Can Say

Then on Thursday it's Seth Lakeman again :D for about the sixth time in three years. He's good though!

The Maccabees tonight.

Don't know any of their stuff, and have a suspicion they won't be my cup of tea. But going to a gig with low expectations can sometimes be a good thing!

Triple post oops!

We had one of those 'I was there' moments on Sunday. Went to see Seth Lakeman play in Bristol (4th time this year - gf is obsessed!). Just after 10pm, there was a power cut.

Seth plays and sings 'Kitty Jay' (probably his most famous tune, and certainly the most impressive live one) acoustically, with 2 staff shining torches on him, then we're all asked to leave. The whole band, however, continue the gig in the carpark outside! Some fool videoed it instead of just enjoying it, but thanks to them, here it is.....

I am purposefully going to miss Rush so I can go see SRD...I saw them a couple years back and the tickets(the ones still available) are a bit pricey...

I saw Return To Forever and Zappa does Zappa last night, it was pretty incredible; both acts are full of ridiculously talented and skilled musicians.

RtF Mk. IV, actually. Chick Corea, Stanley Clarke, Lenny White, Jean-Luc Ponty, and Frank Gamble. No Al Di Meola, who I wanted to see just because; rank was fine, thoough. Dweezil Zappa is a better player, IMO; too bad he didn't sit in with them. Chick did play 'King Kong' with Zappa, it was pretty awesome.

Went to Roger Waters - The Wall a few days ago in Melbourne.

This is possibly the greatest live performance I have ever seen. The visuals were impressive, the music stunning, the variations subtle but effective. Roger's singing voice seems to have improved from 20 years ago, he has a great humour now, and even slightly self deprecating. A great moment was when he introduced Mother and had footage of a 30 years younger version of Roger playing the same song on the screen. So he sang Mother as a duet with his younger "f*cked up" self (his words).

Apart from the production and the amazing visuals, his anti-war message was done in a refreshing way, and I found myself in tears when Bring the boys back home was played with the image of a young girl discovering that her father had returned from the war, and the expression on her face conveyed the pure joy of seeing him again, and the anguish of wondering whether he'd ever return. This concert really has made an indelible mark on my life - never to be forgotten.

The show in Tampa I attended was awesome.
So glad it was Beorn's first real rock concert experience.
